Border guards receive 85 Vietnamese citizens involved in online fraud

At Hoa Lu International Border Gate, the Border Guard of Dong Nai province received 85 Vietnamese citizens involved in online fraud.

Previously, on July 30, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia and Cambodian authorities handed over 85 Vietnamese citizens to the Border Guard of Dong Nai province. This group of citizens was detained in Kratie province (Cambodia) for criminal activities and online fraud during the general inspection, sweep and suppression of crime in recent days in Cambodia. The Hoa Lu International Border Guard Station and the Professional Department, Dong Nai Border Guard Command coordinated with the PA08 Department of Dong Nai Provincial Police to receive them.

After receiving and initially verifying, it was determined that the 85 citizens above belonged to 22 provinces and cities across the country, including 63 men and 22 women. In addition, the authorities discovered 1 wanted case for disturbing public order.

Notably, most of these citizens are young people who left the country for Cambodia with the hope of changing their lives thanks to the invitation of "easy work, high salary". They were lured to work at online fraud centers, disguised casinos, and organizations operating fraud in cyberspace. After arriving, these citizens had their identity documents confiscated and were forced to do fraudulent work through applications and social networking platforms such as Facebook, love apps, Sic Bo, stocks, etc. If they did not comply, they were threatened, assaulted, and even sold from one place to another as a commodity. Many cases were exploited for their labor, living in harsh conditions, not being paid, and having no opportunity to contact their families.

Faced with the above situation, the authorities recommend that people should be more vigilant and proactive in finding information before leaving the country to work or find a job abroad. Each citizen needs to be a strong “shield”, protecting themselves and their families from the sophisticated tricks of transnational criminals.
