Special forces clear mud so students can return to school soon

On the morning of November 8, information from the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Lien Chieu District ( Da Nang City) said that due to the impact of flooding, Hong Quang Primary School located on Hoang Van Thai Street (Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City) had to let students stay home from school today.

The heavy rain that lasted from the evening of November 7 to this morning, November 8, caused Hong Quang Primary School to be flooded about 50-70cm deep. At 7:00 a.m. on November 8, after the water receded, there was still a lot of mud remaining in the classrooms on the first floor of the school. The mud was everywhere, forcing the school to let nearly 1,500 students take a day off today, and at the same time, mobilize all teachers and staff to go to school to clean up and sanitize the environment.

Ms. Le Anh Dao, the school's principal, added that the floodwaters "submerged" the first floor area at 11 p.m. on November 7. Immediately after that, the school asked for the opinion of the Lien Chieu District Department of Education and Training to promptly notify all students of the school to have a day off today, November 8.

"The school break is for teachers to focus on cleaning the environment, cleaning desks, classrooms, and the school yard. The school also asked forces from the 409th Special Forces Battalion - General Staff of Military Region 5 to join in the cleaning," Ms. Dao added.

Forces from the 409th Special Forces Battalion - General Staff of Military Region 5 were present at Hong Quang Primary School to assist in cleaning up the mud.

Teachers and parents were present at the school to clean the school, wash tables and chairs, and shovel mud so that the school could welcome students back soon.

According to Ms. Dao, the school area is often flooded when there is prolonged heavy rain. This is the second time this rainy season that Hong Quang Primary School has been deeply flooded, with a lot of mud remaining after the water receded. Most recently, the school was flooded during the rain that lasted from October 13 to 16. After each flood, the school mobilized teachers and parents to help clean up the classrooms.

By the morning of November 8, the campus and classrooms on the first floor of Hong Quang Primary School were covered in a lot of mud, and the cleanup work was being actively carried out.

"With experience from the flood last year in 2022 and the floods in October 2023, all school supplies in the classroom have been placed in high positions. Therefore, although the flood came unexpectedly this time, the school was only submerged in mud, other damages were insignificant. With the support of forces from the 409th Special Forces Battalion, the cleanup was carried out quickly, and students will soon return to school," Ms. Dao informed.
