TPO - The Hydrometeorological Agency forecasts that during the weekend, Ho Chi Minh City will have showers and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing heavy rain. In addition, the high tide in the lower reaches of the Saigon - Dong Nai River will peak this afternoon (September 20).
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the weather in the Southern region today (September 20) is cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening, and heavy rain in some places. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. The lowest temperature is from 23-26 degrees Celsius, the highest is from 30-33 degrees Celsius.
Commenting on the weather patterns affecting the Ho Chi Minh City area in the coming days, the Southern Hydrometeorological Station said that the tropical convergence zone over the Central region is currently connecting with the low pressure area weakened from storm No. 4. The Southwest monsoon (causing rain) in the Southern region is strong, from September 21 the wind will gradually decrease in intensity and operate at medium intensity. Above, the subtropical high pressure branch in the south from about September 22 tends to encroach on the west and has an axis through the South.
During the weekend (September 21 and 22), many areas in Ho Chi Minh City are forecast to have rain with a probability of 65-70%.
“Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. Beware of heavy rain causing localized flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage capacity” - Southern Hydrometeorological Station informed.
High tide peaks this afternoon
Also according to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 24 hours, water levels at stations downstream of the Saigon - Dong Nai river system continued to rise rapidly following the high tide of the 15th day of the 8th lunar month and reached high levels.

Water levels at stations are forecast to continue to rise rapidly and peak today, September 20.
The highest tide of the day is likely to reach the following levels: At Phu An station (Sai Gon river), Nha Be station (Dong Dien river) at 1.6-1.65m (approximately or 0.05m higher than Alarm Level III). The peak tide will appear from 5-6pm this afternoon.
During the weekend (September 21-22), water levels in rivers, canals and streams in Ho Chi Minh City will fall slowly, then fall faster. The high tide peak at Alert Level 1 will last until September 23.
