Veterans participate in building new rural areas associated with sustainable development

At the seminar, delegates who are veteran members of 8 southern provinces and cities (including Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho City, Dong Nai Province, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, An Giang, Ca Mau) focused on exchanging content related to awareness of the role of agriculture , rural areas, and farmers in the new development stage towards ecological agriculture, modern rural areas, and civilized farmers according to the Party's viewpoints and policies.

Delegates also discussed the process of transforming awareness and thinking from agricultural production to agricultural economy for effective and sustainable development; linking socio-economic development with environmental protection; results and experiences in building new rural areas in the locality. In addition, delegates discussed solutions to build smart, modern, sustainable new rural areas associated with urbanization, preserving and promoting cultural identity and environmental protection, adapting to climate change; the role of veterans at all levels in participating in building new rural areas.

Mr. Vu Minh Thuc, Deputy Head of the Veterans Affairs Committee (Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association) emphasized that the delegates agreed on the view that building new rural areas is a task without an end point, a major movement for rural communities and veterans to unite to achieve the goal of changing the face of rural areas, improving the material and spiritual life of the people; developing comprehensive agricultural, industrial and service production. The process of transforming awareness and thinking from agricultural production to agricultural economy to develop agriculture effectively and sustainably, linking socio-economic development with environmental protection has been effectively implemented by localities.

Mr. Vu Minh Thuc suggested that in the coming time, veteran members at all levels should strengthen propaganda on new rural construction in many forms, widely inform the subjects, closely following the motto "people can easily understand, see, do, contribute", so that the Party's resolution and the National Target Program on new rural construction come into life, creating consensus of the whole society.

The Association at all levels mobilizes cadres and members to be exemplary in implementing and criticizing policies to preserve and promote the cultural values of families and rural communities, and work with local authorities to diversify and ensure the most effective use of cultural institutions, pay attention to restoring traditional craft villages, and focus on developing traditional crafts with high economic efficiency...

The Association at all levels actively mobilizes people to participate in building new rural areas associated with sustainable development, environmental protection, environmentally friendly agricultural development, resource recovery, climate change adaptation, and closely coordinates to monitor the implementation of coordination mechanisms between local authorities, businesses, and people in building new rural areas. Relevant parties implement solutions to promote private economic development, support small and medium-sized enterprises to develop production to create more jobs, and promote rural workers to start businesses.

Implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development, the southern provinces and cities have achieved important results in recent times. The infrastructure system has been gradually modernized; the economic structure continues to shift in a positive direction, linking agriculture with industrial and service development. The ecological environment has been gradually protected; security and order have been maintained; the material and spiritual life of the people has been increasingly improved...
