On September 17, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense , General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), Deputy Minister of National Defense, had talks with Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi Bin Bol Hassan, Commander of the Royal Brunei Army.
At the talks, General Nguyen Tan Cuong emphasized that this visit took place in the context of increasingly strengthened bilateral relations between Vietnam and Brunei.
He believes that the talks will reach common understanding, contributing to developing cooperation between the two countries' armies in an increasingly practical and effective manner.
At the talks, the two sides discussed the world and regional situation and issues of mutual concern.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong affirmed the important role of ASEAN in shaping and maintaining the regional security structure and promoting substantive cooperation among member countries as well as with partners.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) highly appreciated the strategic document "ADMM and ADMM+ ready for the future" developed by Brunei and Singapore, which was approved by the ADMM Conference in 2024, and the initiative " Underwater Critical Infrastructure Security" jointly proposed by Brunei, Singapore and Thailand in 2025.
Referring to the situation in the East Sea, General Nguyen Tan Cuong hopes that Brunei will continue to coordinate to promote ASEAN's common stance, which is to resolve all disagreements by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,...
He expressed his joy at the results of defense cooperation between the two countries in recent times, notably in the following areas: Exchange of delegations at all levels; maintaining a consultation mechanism between the Navy and Air Force; sending ships for visits, exchanges, and professional exchanges; and training cooperation.
On this occasion, General Nguyen Tan Cuong thanked Brunei for sending a high-ranking delegation led by the second Minister of Defense to attend the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the second Vietnam International Defense Exhibition (December 2024).
In the coming time, General Nguyen Tan Cuong suggested that the two sides continue to coordinate effectively in implementing a number of contents such as: Maintaining the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations; promoting cooperation mechanisms such as consultation between military services and the Joint Working Group on military and defense cooperation; promoting training cooperation,...
At the same time, the two sides need to promote training cooperation; expand to potential areas such as defense industry, logistics, military medicine, search and rescue, counter-terrorism, and cyber security; and continue to closely consult and support each other at multilateral mechanisms, forums, and international events organized by each side.

Expressing his joy at meeting the Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Army thanked General Nguyen Tan Cuong for his warm welcome to the delegation, and believed that this visit to Vietnam will be a great success.
He reiterated that at the ASEAN Defense Chiefs Conference held in Malaysia last September, the two sides had the opportunity to meet and discuss many issues regarding bilateral defense relations.
The Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces also expressed his deep impression of his visit to Vietnam to attend the 2022 International Defense Exhibition, where he had the opportunity to meet with many Vietnamese and ASEAN partners, and highly appreciated Vietnam's performances at this event.

On this occasion, Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi Bin Bol Hassan sent congratulations on the National Day September 2, affirming Vietnam's increasingly high position in the international arena.
He completely agreed with the contents that General Nguyen Tan Cuong mentioned in the talks, saying that the two sides can study and expand and develop new areas of cooperation in which both have potential and need, thereby promoting the defense relationship between the two countries to develop more effectively and substantially.
