To have a summer vacation without worrying about drowning

Can Giuoc District Youth Union established a youth volunteer team to propagate drowning prevention for children.

From 2024 to present, the whole province has recorded 12 cases of children dying from drowning. Of which, the majority are in the age group of 5-14. In order to minimize injuries and drowning accidents for children, the provincial departments, branches, sectors and organizations continue to direct, deploy and implement many solutions to prevent and combat drowning accidents.

In particular, Tan An City Youth Union promotes propaganda through social networking sites such as Facebook, Zalo, associations, groups, etc. for students and parents about drowning prevention. Videos instructing safe swimming skills and first aid for drowning victims are designed to be concise and intuitive, making it easy for students to access.

Secretary of Tan An City Youth Union - Nguyen Thanh Phuc said: "The City Youth Union builds highly interactive communication products, integrates illustrative clips, skill challenges,... Thereby, helping children remember knowledge and have skills to handle situations when encountering accidents underwater."

Recently, Can Giuoc District Youth Union established a youth volunteer team to propagate drowning prevention for children; at the same time, coordinated with local authorities and functional agencies to check dangerous areas such as ponds, lakes, river banks, water storage works, etc. to install warning signs, barriers, and arrange forces to inspect and monitor during the summer.

Deputy Secretary of the Can Giuoc District Youth Union - Vo Thi Ngoc Kieu said: "Drowning can be prevented. Through propaganda activities, the District Youth Union hopes that parents will raise awareness and proactively ensure safety for children, especially in the summer."

Many primary and secondary schools in the province have also promoted the organization of extracurricular activities on drowning prevention, integrating interactive games and hypothetical situations to help students easily absorb knowledge and form skills to handle situations in the water environment.

Nguyen Ngoc My Tien (student of grade 6/1, Le Dai Duong Secondary School, Tan Tru District) shared: "Through the propaganda session, I learned many useful things. I know to avoid playing near ponds and lakes, and when I see a friend in trouble, I should call an adult for help, and not try to save myself if I don't know how to swim because it's very dangerous."

In addition to propaganda, more and more parents are proactively letting their children participate in swimming classes during the summer. Mr. Nguyen Gia Thinh (Ward 1, Tan An City) said: "After the swimming course, my child knows how to swim and understands the risks that can be encountered in the water."

When departments, branches, organizations, families and the whole society join hands to act, summer will no longer be a worry but will become a meaningful, safe and joyful time for children./.
