
In the remaining months of this year, the Ministry of Construction will complete procedures to start investing in and completing the remaining road tunnels on the Eastern North-South Expressway to increase operating capacity and ensure traffic safety.
Regarding the investment in completing 9 road tunnels on the Eastern North-South Expressway, the Ministry of Construction has completed investment procedures for 6 tunnels on the North-South Expressway in the 2021-2025 period and plans to implement them in the form of adding them to the corresponding contracts.
Specifically, the Ministry of Construction and its affiliated project management boards and contractors have started construction of the following tunnels: Son Trieu, Tuy An and Tunnel No. 1 of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon project; and are implementing procedures to start construction of three tunnels: Deo But Tunnel, Tunnel No. 2 and 3 of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon project in October 2025.
With the remaining 3 tunnels including Cu Mong, Nui Vung and Than Vu belonging to the PPP investment projects of the North-South expressway in the period of 2017-2020, the investment implementation time will be shortened to the maximum, selecting contractors to start construction at the end of 2025.
The North-South Eastern Expressway in the 2021-2025 period will invest in 6 tunnels including: Deo But tunnel 778m long (Vung Ang - Bung section); tunnel 1 698m long, tunnel 2 575m long and tunnel 3 3,200m long (Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section); Son Trieu tunnel 575m long (Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh section) and Tuy An tunnel 1,020m long (Chi Thanh - Van Phong section).

All 6 tunnels were approved with the investment scale to completely build a tunnel on the right (including the electromechanical system for exploitation).
The left tunnel is being dug and completed to protect the project, serve rescue and relief work during the exploitation and investment process to ensure the overall scale of the entire route at the completion stage.
According to the Ministry of Construction: It is necessary to invest in completing two tunnels to put them into independent and synchronous exploitation between the route and the tunnel to increase traffic capacity, enhance traffic safety on the route during exploitation and use, and improve the investment efficiency of the project.
To soon complete the tunnels and put them into synchronous operation, the investors have also proposed that the Ministry of Construction implement a plan to supplement the corresponding contracts in order to take advantage of machinery, equipment, and human resources of the contractor under construction, saving time and costs for project implementation./.
