Hanoi implements the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program: Increasing the value of fruit trees

From traditional crop cultivation, many households in Lien Minh commune (Hanoi) have switched to growing black grapes and milk grapes combined with experiential tourism, achieving outstanding economic efficiency. In particular, with the support of the government in building brands through the OCOP program, the value has been raised, becoming a typical commodity product with the mark of the Capital.

Contribute to creating product brand

Sharing about his own journey of effort when growing grapes, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hien (owner of Xuan Hien vineyard), a member of Sinh Phat Cooperative, Lien Minh commune said: When starting to grow Black Summer grapes and milk grapes in 2020, the Cooperative only had 7 members with a cultivation area of more than 2 hectares. Because this is a very new model in the North, cultivation techniques and experience are almost non-existent.

Overcoming this barrier, the unit invited agricultural experts to guide. Thanks to that, the initial difficulties were gradually overcome. With the active support of the local government, the vineyard quickly developed smoothly and affirmed its strength with the quality of crispy, sweet, and fragrant fruit. In particular, the grapes were grown according to the VietGAP process, ensuring safety for consumers.

Xuan Hien vineyard with thousands of grape trees planted according to the plan has high trellis, roof to regulate sun and rain and processing and packaging area. Thanks to those outstanding strengths, the products have been strongly welcomed by the market. Each year, the vineyard has two harvests in spring - summer and summer - autumn; there is a harvest of 5-6 tons, but within only 2-3 weeks, all are consumed.

In addition to economic efficiency, the black grape gardens of the people in Lien Minh commune are also a tourist destination for the people and a large number of tourists. On weekends, this vineyard welcomes many visitors to visit and experience picking ripe grapes to eat right at the root. Some black grape gardens that grow in large quantities include: Hoi Huong, Binh Lan, Xuan Hien,...

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hien, participating in the OCOP program has contributed to creating a brand for the unit's products. Products meeting OCOP standards are not only a "certificate", but also a commitment of the Cooperative on quality. From the stages of breeding, care, harvesting to processing, preservation, packaging and labeling, all must comply with strict production processes.

Similarly, the story of Mr. Thieu Van Thiet's family's conversion from growing vegetables to growing grapes in Lien Minh commune is also worth mentioning. According to Mr. Thiet, with more than 5,500m² of agricultural land, he and his neighboring households used to mainly grow vegetables, but low productivity, high investment costs, and unstable output made the family economy unstable.

Realizing that many places had successfully switched to growing grapes, he decided to carefully study and experiment with growing Black Summer grapes and Milk grapes, two varieties originating from China and Korea, suitable for the sunny conditions in the North. Accordingly, he boldly consolidated his fields, rented more adjacent land to create a concentrated production area, applied organic farming methods and a water-saving drip irrigation system. Thanks to careful care, after more than a year, his vineyard began to produce its first crop of fruit with productivity and quality exceeding expectations.

“On average, I earn 50-70 million VND per sao of grapes per crop. I can do two main crops a year, which is many times higher than growing vegetables before. The grapes are sweet and beautiful, customers will come back to buy more after eating them once,” Mr. Thiet shared.

Mr. Thieu Van Thiet's grape products are grown according to VietGAP standards, with the support of the local government, participating in the One Commune One Product program, and certified as a 3-star OCOP product in 2024. Thanks to that, not only consumed at traditional markets, his family's grape products are also introduced and sold at supermarkets and commercial centers in the city.

Promote the organization of fairs and product weeks to introduce OCOP products

According to Ngo Van Ngon, Deputy Chief of Office of the Hanoi New Rural Development Program Coordination Office, with a large agricultural land area (over 197,000 hectares), 1,336 agricultural cooperatives, 1,574 farms with more than 164 high-tech application models, Hanoi possesses the leading agricultural potential in the country. In particular, over 14,000 products have been granted traceability codes (QRCode), affirming quality and transparency.

Accordingly, taking advantage of this potential and advantage, Hanoi has made a spectacular breakthrough in the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, rising to the top of the country in terms of the number of OCOP products. Specifically, from 2019 to now, the city has evaluated and classified 3,317 OCOP products (accounting for 21.3% of the country), including 6 5-star products and 1,571 4-star products.

To support OCOP products to access the market, in recent times, Hanoi has promoted the organization of fairs, seminars, and product weeks, promoting the recovery and development of trade services, connecting trade, promoting trade, stimulating consumption of OCOP products... Up to now, the city has developed 110 points of introduction and sale of OCOP products, creating conditions for consumers in the capital to identify and consume products.

In addition, in recent times, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment has also actively organized events to introduce OCOP products associated with regional cultures (Northern mountainous provinces, Red River Delta, Central and Central Highlands, Southern regions) along with many weeks of consulting, introducing and promoting the consumption of OCOP products, craft villages, agricultural products and food...

On the other hand, Hanoi also signed cooperation agreements with many retail corporations such as Central Retail, AEON, Winmart, Hapro to bring OCOP products into the modern distribution system. In addition, the subjects are also trained in sales skills, building digital booths on e-commerce platforms such as Postmart, Voso, Tiki, Lazada, Shopee...

It can be said that the synchronous efforts from high-quality production to modern market expansion have firmly consolidated Hanoi's leading position in the OCOP Program, helping the capital's products increasingly reach consumers and move towards the goal of sustainable export.
