Safety and Health Competition - Raising the level of safety culture in the Coal Industry

In a coal mining environment with many potential risks, occupational safety and health (OSH) is always considered a key task by the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV). Over the years, the Competition for Excellent OSH Workers (OSH) organized by TKV has become an annual activity, spreading the spirit of "Safety for production".

- Production must be safe", contributing to raising awareness, skills and responsibility for the food safety team - the silent "gatekeepers" for the safety of miners.

The 13th Excellent Safety and Health Contest in 2025, taking place on August 28 and 29, gathered 111 contestants from 32 units in the whole Group. With the form of a game show consisting of 3 parts: Start - Accelerate - Finish, the contest was both professional and lively and attractive. As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded certificates to 13 excellent Safety and Health Contestants, 98 excellent Safety and Health Contestants, and 14 units won first, second, and third prizes for the whole group.

Mr. Le Thanh Xuan, Chairman of TKV Trade Union emphasized: The Good Safety and Health Contest is not only an opportunity for the safety and health team to practice and improve their knowledge and skills, but also affirms their core role in ensuring safety for workers. TKV Trade Union always considers building, consolidating and developing the safety and health network as a key task, thereby creating a sustainable safety culture throughout the Group.

In the underground mining sector - a special field with many risks, the team of Uong Bi Coal Company won the first prize. This is a worthy reward, recognizing the persistent efforts in building a strong safety and hygiene network with more than 500 people, arranged in all production groups in the whole company.

Ms. Hong Hue, Vice President of the Uong Bi Coal Company's Trade Union, affirmed: The company's Trade Union always accompanies the profession in occupational safety and health work, from selecting and training occupational safety and health workers, to creating conditions in terms of time and equipment. The achievements at the competition are the pride of the collective, and at the same time, a motivation for the company to continue to improve the quality of the occupational safety and health network, ensuring safety for more than 4,800 officers and workers.

One of the typical faces of Uong Bi Coal Company is Mr. Nguyen Van Linh, Safety Officer of Mining - Tunneling Workshop K11. Having worked at the mine for 16 years, Mr. Linh has been working as a Safety Officer for more than 10 years and has been voted as an excellent Safety Officer for many years. Mr. Linh shared: The job of an Safety Officer is to remind everyone to follow the process, promptly detect risks and propose solutions. I always keep in mind that only when the production shift ends and everyone returns safely, that is the greatest success.

Workshop K2 mining - Tunneling K11 was also highly appreciated at the company-level competition when it won the second prize for the whole group. Workshop Manager Pham Van Manh said: The safety and sanitation team has become an extension of the manager in site management. Thanks to their close supervision, exemplary behavior and responsibility, the workshop has maintained a safety record for many years, without any serious incidents.

In 2025, up to this point, TKV's safety work is still guaranteed. This result has an important contribution from the ATVSV network - those who directly supervise, make recommendations, and protect the safety of colleagues.

The Safety and Health Competition is not only a playground for training knowledge and skills, but also affirms the particularly important role of Safety and Health in building a mine safety culture, creating a working environment of "Safety - Discipline - Unity". That is the foundation for TKV to complete the production goal associated with sustainable development, putting workers at the center.
