For more than 30 years, Mr. Hoa has been working hard at his job of repairing clothes.

With just a small corner in the house, a sewing machine and a few items such as a ruler, scissors, needle, thread and a sign "Clothing repair accepted", Mr. Dong Van Hoa (born in 1959, residing in Tan Ninh ward, Tay Ninh province) has made a living by repairing clothes for over 30 years.

Having traveled everywhere, Mr. Hoa experienced many different jobs, from factory worker, gas pump to candy seller,... going to work from dawn, the work was hard but the income was unstable. After many circumstances, Mr. Hoa came to the profession of clothing repair. Thanks to his efforts to learn and his passion for sewing clothes since he was a child, in 1991, Mr. Hoa decided to choose this profession to stick with for a long time.

Quickly folding the newly altered trousers into a pocket marked with the customer's name, Mr. Hoa confided: "This job is not too hard but requires dexterity, meticulousness, especially to satisfy the customer. The job of repairing clothes cannot make you rich but it ensures income, enough to cover expenses. Especially on holidays and Tet, the number of customers increases, the income will be higher. This is not only a job to earn a living but also my passion, I feel very happy when doing it."

Throughout Mr. Hoa’s house, in the cupboards, on the shelves, in every corner are raw materials and accessories for clothing repair. Most of the customers who come to his shop are regulars, from students, to workers, and the elderly. Thanks to his reputable and responsible work, one person introduces another, and over time the number of customers becomes more stable.

Every day, he diligently worked on an old sewing machine, repairing every detail on clothes according to customers' requests. After many years of hard work, Mr. Hoa and his wife persistently saved up money from repairing clothes to buy a house and make ends meet. Their children were born one after another, grew up surrounded by the sound of sewing machines of all kinds running day and night, and received a good education.

Mr. Hoa added: “Any job requires dedication, care and prestige to last. Making new clothes is difficult, altering clothes to satisfy customers is even more difficult. To make customers' clothes beautiful after alteration, the tailor must have knowledge of fashion , grasp new trends to advise people. In addition, you must also understand the customer's characteristics such as sloping or horizontal shoulders, curved or straight legs, whether the upper and lower body are balanced or not to make appropriate alterations. Each type of clothing, model and material also requires its own secret of alteration. Altering clothes according to customers' needs but also need to respect the design to keep the original shape.”

Repairing clothes is a job that requires meticulousness and carefulness.

Once, a young customer heard about the shop and came to see Mr. Hoa who was doing the repairs himself. He was hesitant because he thought that men who do the sewing would not be meticulous and careful. However, after receiving the item that he was satisfied with, the young customer became Mr. Hoa's regular customer.

Almost all members of Mrs. Kim Thi Huong's family (residing in Chau Thanh commune, Tay Ninh province) are regular customers, often coming to Mr. Hoa's shop to have their clothes repaired.

Ms. Huong said: “Mr. Hoa works very meticulously, not only does he fix the clothes beautifully but also returns them on time, at reasonable prices. He often carefully notes down phone numbers and requests from customers in a small notebook, and even records the measurements of his regular customers.”

For over 30 years, Mr. Dong Van Hoa - a tailor - has been working hard with his old sewing machine to make people beautiful with responsibility and a spirit of constant effort. For Mr. Hoa, this is not only a way of life, a matter of sewing or needlework, but also a passion and joy of doing the job that he loves./.
