Specifically, in August 2013, former computer engineer James Howells accidentally threw away a hard drive containing the equivalent of 8,000 Bitcoins, and his colleague dumped it in a landfill in south Wales.

Mr. Howells has repeatedly been denied access to the land by local authorities, and has announced that he will launch a legal battle to claim £446 million in damages, the highest ever valuation for lost Bitcoin.
