As a locality with a long coastline and vast fields, for many years now, Ha Tinh has become a stopover for many species of migratory birds to avoid the rainy and stormy season. This is also the time when local people set traps to hunt wild birds.

Thinh Loc commune is considered a "hot spot" for hunting wild birds in Loc Ha district. Faced with this situation, right from the beginning of the migratory bird season, local authorities and functional forces have stepped up propaganda and mobilized people not to set traps or set "heavenly nets" to exterminate wild birds; at the same time, not to trade or store wild birds.

The confiscated bird trapping tools were destroyed on the spot.

Vice Chairman of Thinh Loc Commune People's Committee Tran Van Quy said: "Since the beginning of September, the locality has focused on propaganda on the loudspeaker system and going to each house to propagate and mobilize people not to catch wild birds. Along with that, police and militia forces have been arranged to join forest rangers in inspecting the area. Through inspection, more than 1,000 bird-trapping trees, 100 fake storks made of foam and some single bushes have been confiscated and destroyed. To protect bird flocks during the rainy and stormy season, the locality is continuing to monitor, remind, and coordinate with functional forces to handle the situation effectively."

From the beginning of August until now, the unit has coordinated with localities to launch 10 campaigns, destroying 400 storks, 2,400 trees, destroying 18 clumps of eggs, 2,800 meters of nets...".

People of Cuong Gian commune (Nghi Xuan district) signed a commitment not to catch wild birds.

With its characteristic of many ponds and fertile groves, Sac Can field in Song Nam village (Cuong Gian commune, Nghi Xuan) is always an ideal place for wild birds to choose as a resting place, to replenish their energy after a long journey of thousands of kilometers flying south to avoid the cold. Therefore, this place is always the place where local people set traps to catch and exterminate wild birds.

To limit and prevent the hunting of wild birds, since the beginning of the rainy season, Cuong Gian commune has increased patrols and control of areas where wild birds often come to take shelter. In particular, the locality has asked households to sign a commitment not to catch wild birds and informed people of new regulations related to this issue. In addition, since the beginning of September, the locality has coordinated with the forest rangers to organize 3 inspection campaigns, destroy 8 shelters, destroy 300 fake baits, 1,600 music trees...

The season of migratory birds avoiding storms is coming, activities to protect flocks of storks, sedges, herons... are being urgently deployed by functional forces and authorities at all levels in the province. Not only in Loc Ha, Nghi Xuan, all coastal communes located at the head of migratory bird flows from the sea to the mainland in districts: Thach Ha, Cam Xuyen, Ky Anh district, Ky Anh town... are focusing on this work.

Since the beginning of 2023, the whole province has organized 205 inspections, organized nearly 400 propaganda campaigns, signed nearly 300 commitments; confiscated and released into the wild nearly 156 live decoy birds; destroyed nearly 2,000 fake birds for bait; nearly 16,000 fishing rods; 18 bird calling signal transmitters... Thereby, it has contributed to limiting the hunting of wild birds in the province.

Mr. Duan also affirmed: In the coming time, the unit will continue to coordinate with functional forces and local authorities to organize continuous and drastic raids to completely dismantle and recover means and tools for illegally trapping and catching wild birds; destroy illegal processing, storage and consumption locations of wild birds. This is a practical work that contributes to the protection of biodiversity, ecological environment, and the protection of migratory birds.
