On January 15, Bulgarian Defense Minister Todor Tagarev said that he will implement a plan to build necessary infrastructure for about 5,000 North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) soldiers stationed on the country's territory.

According to Minister Tagarev, during his recent visit to the US, the two sides discussed the possibility of providing the necessary infrastructure for the deployment of a NATO multinational battle group on Bulgarian territory, Euractive reported.
The cost of the NATO facilities and related infrastructure in Bulgaria will be around 6 billion euros. Washington will help Sofia use a range of international funds to finance the construction.
Plans are for the NATO battle group on the alliance's eastern flank to be expanded to brigade level with a maximum of around 5,000 troops.
There is no specific time for the start of construction yet, although Bulgaria is ready to provide everything necessary in a timely manner.
According to the Bulgarian minister, the necessary infrastructure includes not only accommodation for allies, but also roads and railways to ensure the rapid deployment of NATO troops on the territory of the Balkan country.
In addition, there are pipelines and fuel storage facilities, as well as barracks areas for military personnel.
