2025 is the first exam year in which candidates will take the exam according to the old (2006) and new (2018) programs.
With the new program, each candidate will choose to take 2 out of 9 elective subjects, including: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology, Foreign Language (can choose one of the following languages: English, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean).
The first subject lasts 50 minutes, starting at 7:35. The second subject also lasts 50 minutes, starting at 8:40.
The new point this year is that the number of exam codes for each subject has doubled, from 24 to 48. This not only helps to increase security but also diversifies the exam sets.
Also this morning, candidates taking the exam under the old program will take and complete the Natural Science or Social Science exam. In the afternoon, these candidates will continue to take the final exam, which is Foreign Language.
'Difficult' English test
As one of the subjects chosen by many candidates with more than 350,000 registrations, this year's English exam is considered difficult by many candidates.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training , this year, History is the elective subject with the largest number of registered candidates, with more than 499,300 students. Next is Geography with more than 494,000 registered students.
In the natural subjects group, Physics has more than 354,200 registered candidates, Chemistry has 246,700 candidates, Biology has more than 72,600 students.
English is also a subject chosen by many students with 358,870 candidates registering.
Candidate Nguyen Phuong Nga (Trung Van High School) chose to take the English and Physics exams and said: "For me, the English exam was relatively difficult, while the Physics exam had a lot of theory, requiring a solid grasp of knowledge, so I had to spend more time thinking and doing the test more carefully."
Also choosing Physics and English as two optional subjects, Nguyen Le Duc Minh (Tran Quoc Tuan High School) is confident of getting a score of 10 in Physics, while he is not sure about his score in English. "The English test has many new words and many difficult passages. Compared to the sample test where I got over 8 points, the official test is more difficult and it is impossible to predict how many points I will get," Minh shared. At the same time, he added that at the end of the exam, he will take time to "relax" after a long period of studying.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoa (residing in My Dinh, Nam Tu Liem district) confided: "Although my house is close, I still took my child to and from school, and waited for him in front of the gate to encourage him during the two days of the exam. The whole family has been 'tense as a bowstring' for each of his exams in the past few days. In the class, he is the only one taking the exam at this exam site, so I am a bit more worried. Now that he has finished the exam, I feel relieved and hope for good results for him."
