Billionaire Jensen Huang's Nvidia hits $4 trillion mark

(Dan Tri) - Billionaire Jensen Huang's Nvidia has just become the first company in the world to reach a capitalization of 4,000 billion USD, surpassing Microsoft and Apple.

Nvidia shares rose more than 2% in trading on July 9 (US time), bringing the company's market capitalization to over $4 trillion for the first time.

Nvidia also became the first company in human history to achieve this record capitalization, although Microsoft and Apple were the first to reach the $3 trillion mark.

Nvidia first crossed the $2 trillion market cap mark in February 2024 and hit the $3 trillion mark last June.

With a market capitalization of over $4 trillion, Nvidia is also the world's most valuable company, and investors continue to pour money into the chipmaker serving this generative AI wave.

Nvidia stands to benefit from growing demand for AI hardware and chips since ChatGPT launched in late 2022.

The surge in demand has boosted the memory chip giant's stock price by more than 15 times in the past five years. Nvidia's stock price has risen 22% year-to-date, with more than 15% in the past month alone.

Nvidia is currently the leader in graphics processing units (GPUs) used for large-scale language modeling and AI tasks. However, the stock’s strong performance this year is still surprising, given the company’s difficulty generating revenue from the world’s second-largest economy .

Last month, Nvidia said the export restrictions on its H20 chips to China would cost the company $8 billion in lost sales. Jensen Huang previously told CNBC that being blocked from selling chips in China would be a “huge loss” for the company.

However, in its first-quarter financial report released in May, Nvidia still recorded a 69% increase in revenue compared to the same period last year, mainly thanks to a 73% increase in the data center segment.

Nvidia's full-year revenue is expected to increase 53% to nearly $200 billion, according to data firm LSEG. At the June 26 shareholders' meeting, CEO Jensen Huang said that in addition to AI, robotics will also be an important growth driver for the company.
