Proposed fine of 85,000,000 VND.
Previously, a representative of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City confirmed to VTC News reporter : The fashion show called New Tradition taking place on May 6, 2023 did not follow the administrative procedures as prescribed at the Department of Culture and Sports.
As VTC News reported earlier, the New Tradition fashion show by designer Tuong Danh stirred up mixed public opinion with the image of a model wearing a conical hat and a stylized yếm dress, revealing her back and butt. Along with that, many other designs inspired by the ao dai and yếm dress also had bold cut-out details...
This collection has faced strong opposition from experts and the public. Most opinions say that the collection brings offensive images, not suitable for traditional values.
Artist and Ao Dai researcher Nguyen Duc Binh shared: "The person who made this costume does not understand tradition and cultural identity. This costume does not carry the cultural identity of the Vietnamese people. The cultural identity of Vietnamese costumes is discreet, modest, and simple, but nowadays there are many designers who cover it up with words like inspiration, modern breath, and the voice of the times we live in to create inappropriate and ridiculous costumes. They are mistaken. How can there be such inspiration? Whether the costume is innovative or not, it must still exude the cultural identity of the Vietnamese people."
The design caused public outrage.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Binh added: "If these costumes are performed in a private space, on a small scale, without affecting the public, then introducing them is the designer's job. But when they are widely announced outside, it will affect the community and the aesthetic orientation of society. Young people will think that it is Vietnamese cultural identity. This is very dangerous."
And Ton That Minh Khoi - head of the historical project Thien Nam Lich Dai Hau Phi spoke up to criticize: "Since when has the traditional conical hat been associated with such vulgar, vulgar bare buttocks? I can't believe my eyes when I see these images!
Since when has the image of monks begging for alms, which is an extremely sacred image, reminiscent of the original Sangha, been distorted so terribly on the fashion runway? All from a brand that pretends to be "traditional Vietnamese costumes", the indignation has reached its peak. Do not, do not ever use the excuse of "innovation" and "creativity" to brutally rape and kill traditional culture like this! I strongly condemn and oppose this collection and brand!
