Study both culture and profession
Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc, Director of Continuing Education Center No. 4, said that by the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the center will have 2,839 students. Of these, 2,648 students will study both vocational secondary school and high school programs, organized into 68 classes at many affiliated facilities. For example, Quang Nam College has 18 classes with 718 students; Central College of Technology, Economics and Irrigation has 18 classes with 695 students. Notably, 10 high schools will participate in the joint teaching of the Continuing Education program combined with vocational training.
Currently, continuing education is organized according to the new general education program (Circular No. 12/2022/TT-BGDDT promulgating the Continuing Education Program at the high school level), ensuring that students can study all the basic subjects, but more flexibly, suitable to their abilities. Many students study both general education and vocational training at colleges and vocational secondary schools. The "two-in-one" model helps save time and increase career opportunities.
Nguyen Van H., a student of the Continuing Education class at Quang Nam College, shared: “I was not admitted to the public 10th grade, my family was very worried. When I was admitted to the Continuing Education class, I studied both general education and mechanical engineering. After 3 years, I have a high school diploma and a vocational certificate. I believe that this path is completely suitable, opening up early job opportunities.”
Combining vocational training and general education at local high schools is also a good way to ensure that students in disadvantaged areas do not have to leave their studies unfinished. Le Thanh T., a 12th grade student studying both vocational and general education at Sao Nam High School (Nam Phuoc Commune), said: "Studying both vocational and general education is sometimes quite difficult, but teachers have arranged reasonable lessons, sometimes studying theory at the joint school, and vocational skills are concentrated in the summer. Thanks to that, students have completed the high school program and have professional skills."
The new program and new methods bring excitement to the classroom for high school students. The Continuing Education Program is synchronized and implemented corresponding to the levels of the General Education Program in the spirit of Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW. In particular, the Continuing Education Program for junior high school and high school is issued equivalent to grades 6 to 12 according to the new General Education Program.
Continuing education activities play an important role in building a learning society in each locality. This ensures that cultural content is not inferior to the regular system, while applying a flexible approach, focusing on developing students' capacity.
Up to now, in addition to grades 11 and 12, Continuing Education Center No. 4 has about 300 students of grade 10 who will enroll. Notably, in addition to the existing facilities, this year, at Nong Son High School (Nong Son commune), there is an additional class for students who do not pass the entrance exam to public high schools.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, a parent of a student here, said that organizing the GDTX program at the high school creates great conditions for students to continue studying near home without having to travel far like in previous years.
Grassroots efforts
Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc said that, implementing the circular of the Ministry of Education and Training, the unit has provided detailed and specific instructions for teachers to proactively innovate teaching methods to meet the GDTX program.

“The results show that the implementation of the program has helped students continue to develop necessary qualities, abilities, civic awareness and personality, self-study ability and lifelong learning awareness. The program also creates conditions for students to complete high school education and career orientation in accordance with their abilities, conditions and circumstances, meeting the requirements to be able to participate in the labor market and continue studying at a higher level,” said Mr. Ngoc.
According to the representative of Continuing Education Center No. 4, from the beginning of the school year, the center has coordinated with vocational training institutions and high schools to organize teaching of the Continuing Education program at the high school level combined with vocational secondary school. The occupations taught at vocational training institutions and high schools are suitable for the orientation of students after graduating from junior high school and ensure the needs of the labor market.
High schools, continuing education centers and vocational schools have formed a teaching contract mechanism, sharing teachers and sharing facilities. Thanks to that, students have both cultural classes and vocational workshops. In Quang Nam, after Resolution No. 11 of the province (2017) on student streaming, the rate of students registering for intermediate and continuing education has increased sharply. This shows that the streaming policy is not only in the right direction but also convincing to parents and students.
Mr. Le Xuyen, Director of Continuing Education Center No. 3 of Da Nang city, shared that the center has connected and shared electronic learning materials, programs, open courses, distance learning, online or combined directly with online to improve the quality of education and diversify training and development activities at the center.
In addition, plans to build a network of core teachers, invest in and equip facilities, especially information technology equipment to effectively organize teacher training are also being invested in.
The rate of students studying the GDTX program graduating from high school in 2025 at educational institutions is from 86.5 - 94.52%. This shows that the quality of learning and training in implementing the GDTX program at high school level is quite good.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Van, Principal of Sao Nam High School (Nam Phuoc Commune) said that the graduation rate of GDTX students at the school is quite high, in the 2023-2024 school year, 26/29 students passed, last year 25/27 students. This number reflects the efforts of both teachers and students. However, the school still faces difficulties in facilities and finances, opening only 3-4 classes each year.
Mr. Mai Tan Linh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City said: “Currently, vocational education centers - GDTX have made efforts to diversify programs, disseminate knowledge, skills, transfer technology... creating favorable conditions for regular, continuous, lifelong learning. The education sector is facing rare opportunities but also many challenges. Therefore, there must be sharing between high schools, GDTX centers and vocational schools”.
In the 2025 High School Graduation Exam, Da Nang had more than 31,000 students recognized as graduating from high school, reaching a rate of 98.41%. In the Continuing Education system, Quang Nam Continuing Education Center achieved the highest rate of 90.03%, followed by Continuing Education Center No. 2 with 89.15%, Continuing Education Center No. 1 with 87.98%. A representative of the Department of Education and Training said that despite the difference, these centers still recorded a relatively positive graduation rate compared to previous years.
