In the modern life, when digital technology is increasingly developed, many people have unintentionally abandoned the habit of reading books. However, in many villages, a library model is quietly maintained and spread - that is the family library, a space to preserve knowledge, foster the spirit of learning and preserve family traditions.

More than 8 years ago, when the Nguyen Dinh family in Chau Ha village, Mai Phu commune, rebuilt the ancestral hall, the elders and descendants of the family decided to set aside a space to build a library. Currently, in addition to the area used to store books and newspapers, the family has also arranged a space for reading and chatting not only for the descendants of the family but also for the villagers.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tinh - a son of the family, who is also responsible for managing the Nguyen Dinh family library, said: "The bookcase was built with the contributions of the family's children, financial supporters, and book donors. Up to now, the family library has more than 3,000 books to serve the descendants and villagers."

If the bookshelf of the Nguyen Dinh family in Chau Ha village, Mai Phu commune was established at the time when the whole country implemented the Project on Developing Reading Culture in the Community according to the Government 's decision, then in Tan Trung village in Hong Loc commune, "Khang's Bookshelf" was formed before the August Revolution of 1945.

For many years, the family yard has been a reading place for students in the late afternoon or on weekends. It is not open regularly because the family members are busy with work, but when there is time or someone needs books, the family is ready to open the door to serve the reading needs of the family members and local people.
Nguyen Ho Ngoc Chi, a student at Tan Loc Primary School, shared: “I often come here to read books after school or on weekends. I find many interesting things from the pages of books here.”

Through many historical periods, there were times when the bookshelf was no longer there due to war, storms and floods, but with the tradition of learning, the descendants of the Nguyen family, the late Khang, in Hong Loc commune, continued to maintain the "Khang's Bookshelf". Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung - a nephew in the family said: "Maintaining the family's bookshelf is not only to create cultural beauty for the homeland, but also a way to encourage children to read books diligently to enrich their knowledge, and build a reading culture right in their own home".
During the development process, in Ha Tinh , there have been a number of library models in residential areas such as: Hoa Cuong Library of teacher Nguyen Quang Cuong and his wife; Phan Huy family bookshelf, family bookshelf of Professor Nguyen Chuong Thau, Doan Tu Hoan... which have been maintained for many years. Through the libraries, many organizations and individuals have supported family bookshelf with all kinds of books and newspapers on building the homeland, becoming "worth-living countrysides".
Recognizing the role of the family bookcase in the movement of building a reading culture in the locality, Mr. Le Viet Binh - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hong Loc commune said: "We highly appreciate families who have bookcases to promote the cultural tradition of the family. In the area, the reading movement of the people not only builds a reading culture but also contributes to the movement of building new rural areas in the locality, creating the beauty of the countryside in the current period,
Family library – not noisy, not modern, but is the place to light the fire of knowledge from deep within the Vietnamese soul. From the simple villages, this model quietly sows the seeds of knowledge, morality and love for homeland and family, to then blossom in the hearts of future generations.
