Swedish industrial design and construction company Modvion has just completed the installation of a 150m high wooden wind turbine (pictured), the world's tallest wooden wind turbine tower on record.
Height is one of the important factors for a wind turbine, because it determines the ability of the blades to sweep the wind and collect energy. However, the construction and installation of tall steel turbines, as is commonly done today, is difficult, especially in land installations, because it requires the diameter of the turbine body and the weight of the structure to increase proportionally.
To manufacture the turbines, Modvion uses thin pine wood slices, which are convenient for creating curved corners of the turbine, and industrial glue to firmly attach multiple layers together according to the mold of each individual module, then transport these modules and install them together into a complete turbine right at the construction site. The above turbine is installed with a generator with a capacity of 2 megawatts.
