With the goal of socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in border areas, on April 1, 2019, the Military Region 7 Command deployed the project "Building residential areas adjacent to border militia posts" for the period 2019-2025 in Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh and Long An to realize the viewpoint: Each citizen is a milestone to firmly protect sovereignty and border security.

Households in these residential areas will be the local force, actively participating with forces to protect border lines, landmarks and border security; aiming to develop into border hamlets, communes and towns, thereby strengthening the people's strength in building defense areas and ensuring a peaceful , friendly, cooperative and developing border.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, member of the Party Central Committee and Commander of Military Region 7, affirmed: “The people are the mainstay and the most important force in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. The task of protecting sovereignty and border security cannot be completed without relying on the strength of the people.

Therefore, implementing the project "Building residential areas adjacent to border militia posts" in the current situation is an urgent task and requirement, contributing to the economic, cultural and social development of border areas; building a peaceful and friendly border, firmly protecting the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Fatherland, from early on and from afar".

Recently, with the active response of local Party committees and authorities, the Military Region 7 Command has implemented a project to build residential areas adjacent to border militia posts and a plan to build residential areas adjacent to border posts, stations, and border guard posts as the focus of development, gradually increasing the population along the entire border line, so that people can truly participate in self-management of border lines, landmarks, and border security protection; build a peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and developing border; contribute to protecting sovereignty and territory.

By the end of 2023, in Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh and Long An provinces, 45 points with 435 houses adjacent to border militia posts have been built, inaugurated and handed over; 13 points with 86 houses adjacent to border posts, stations and border guards have been built and people have been brought to live stably; some residential points have developed into border residential areas and clusters. This is a demonstration of high political determination, efforts and endeavors of Party committees, authorities, armed forces and people of localities in Military Region 7, including Binh Phuoc province.

People firmly cling to the border

In Bu Dop district, there are 4 residential areas adjacent to the border militia post, of which the residential area adjacent to the border militia post of Thanh Hoa commune is well-built with full electricity, roads, and water. Chairman of the District People's Committee Le Quang Oanh said: "Thanks to the implementation of the project to build residential areas adjacent to the border militia post, the socio-economic appearance of the district's border area has improved, national defense and security meet the requirements in the new situation, contributing to creating a national defense posture, a closed, solid, interconnected defense posture on the border line.

Arriving at a border residential area in Thanh Hoa commune, Bu Dop district, we felt the warmth and familiarity of the long-established villages. However, when asking the local people, we learned that this is a residential area adjacent to a militia post that was established a few years ago. The residential area was established on a flat land, the internal road was concreted and connected to the district's traffic system by asphalt road.

From this residential area to the border patrol road and to the commune center, traffic is very convenient with a travel time of less than 10 minutes. Party member Vu Viet Quy in the border residential area adjacent to the Thanh Hoa commune militia post, shared that living at the border is difficult; however, after overcoming the first days of starting a business, everyone is now steadfast, determined, and united in building the residential area to become more and more prosperous.

The residential area is increasingly crowded, the Hamlet Committee mobilizes households to join the Veterans Association, Youth Union, Farmers' Association, Women's Association, the Elderly Association, the Red Cross Association... The Border Residential Area Security Team was also established, this is one of the solid rear of border guards and militia forces in the days of fighting the Covid-19 epidemic as well as maintaining security and order on the border. Despite his old age, Mr. Pham Huu Phu was trusted to be the Head of the Security Team.

Mr. Phu often takes advantage of his free time to go and check the area and the situation of the residents. If he discovers any strange objects entering the area, he immediately reports to the authorities; any problems in the residential area are promptly resolved by him. Mr. Phu also often spends time propagating and instructing people to be vigilant against bad guys who lure and cause disorder in the residential area. Thanks to that, for many years now, there has been no violation of border regulations in Hamlet 3, Thanh Hoa Commune, and security and order are stable.

Thanks to adequate infrastructure and stable security, up to now, the two residential areas adjacent to the Thanh Hoa border militia post have had 106 households settle down. In addition to working and producing to enrich the border area, the households here take advantage of planting flowers and ornamental plants along the roads; growing lush vegetables to create a peaceful residential area on the border. This shows that the lives of the people here have truly settled down, firmly and stably rooted in the border area of ​​the Fatherland.

In Loc Ninh border district, there is a border with Cambodia that is more than 109 km long, adjacent to Mimot district (Tbong Khmum province) and Sanuol district (Kratie province); Loc Ninh district has 7 border communes, 6 border posts with a Hoa Lu international border gate, a Loc Thinh-Ton Le Cham national border gate and a Loc Tan-Tuan Lung opening. Loc Ninh has an important strategic position in terms of politics, national defense, security and foreign affairs of the province in particular and the whole country in general.

Secretary of the District Party Committee Le Truong Son said that, implementing the project of building residential areas adjacent to border militia posts in the district, up to now, 54 houses have been completed and put into use in 4 residential areas adjacent to border militia posts in the communes of Loc Hoa, Loc An, Loc Thien, Loc Thinh. Along with that, the district also coordinated to build 200 houses for households on the border line with support from the Ministry of National Defense.

This is a model that both meets the requirements of immediate tasks and has a long-term strategic vision to form a solid foundation to support forces on duty on the border, while implementing the policy of keeping the people safe and protecting the border land, contributing to enhancing the overall strength of the people's hearts and minds, strengthening the strength of the defense area, building a peaceful, friendly, cooperative and developing border.

As one of the first 5 households to settle down at the residential area adjacent to the border militia post in Loc An commune, Loc Ninh district since the first year of project implementation, Mr. Hoang Huu Tam shared: “Life in the early days of moving to the new place was very difficult, but as a young family, the initial economic conditions were still very difficult, to “live separately” with a decent house and land like today was not easy. Thanks to the policy of Military Region 7, our militia brothers' lives soon stabilized, we felt secure to stick to the border with the functional forces and local authorities to maintain peace on the border line.”

After 5 years of implementing the Project to build residential areas adjacent to border militia posts, people feel secure in their land, establish villages, and voluntarily act as the eyes and ears for the army in performing national defense tasks; the armed forces rely on the people to protect the border, the people rely on the armed forces to feel secure in their work, production, and life, contributing to building a solid people's heart position at the Fatherland's border.

The policy of increasing population density in border areas plays a particularly important role, as a foundation to promote the strength of the great national unity bloc, combined with the military, security and foreign affairs posture, creating a solid all-people border defense posture, contributing to the successful implementation of the cause of building and protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security.
