Building Union housing helps workers settle down

Comrades Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Nguyen Dinh Khang, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor ; Nguyen Van Gau, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee attended and performed the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Trade Union social housing project was implemented by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on the basis of approving the local adjustment of the 1/500 scale detailed construction planning of the Ho Cong Du urban area, Viet Yen district in Decision No. 2152/QD-UBND dated December 26, 2024 of the People's Committee of Viet Yen town, former Bac Giang province (now Viet Yen ward, Bac Ninh province) with main items including 2 10-storey residential buildings with a total floor area of 30,166 m2, with 477 self-contained apartments for rent with elevators and basic equipment and furniture (beds, wardrobes, kitchen cabinets)... 1 3-storey garage with a total floor area of 3,024 m2.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh Province Dao Quang Khai emphasized: Bac Ninh is the "industrial capital" of the North, the production base of many large global corporations, with industrial and urban growth rates among the fastest in the country. That strong development process has attracted hundreds of thousands of workers from all over the country to Bac Ninh to live and work. This poses great demands on social security, especially the issue of accommodation for workers, laborers and low-income groups.

Implementing the Project "Investing in the construction of at least 1 million social housing apartments for low-income people and industrial park workers in the 2021-2030 period" approved by the Prime Minister, Bac Ninh province was assigned the target of building 147,100 apartments, accounting for over 14% of the total target of the country and is one of the provinces assigned the highest task. In recent times, Bac Ninh province has been determined and resolute in leading, directing, and issuing many policies and solutions to promote the development of social housing. Up to now, there are 77 social housing projects in the province under implementation with a total area of about 280 hectares; it is expected that when completed, it will supply about 114,400 apartments.

Since the beginning of 2025, the province has completed an additional 12,649 apartments, reaching about 80% of the 2025 plan. The province is actively selecting and assigning investors to implement new projects, striving to complete the target of 135,000 apartments by 2030. These results show the determination of the entire provincial political system, the companionship and sharing of businesses, investors and especially the support of people, workers and laborers.

The Trade Union Social Housing Project in Viet Yen Ward is planned with a synchronous system of cultural and sports facilities and green campus, creating a civilized, modern and safe living space. The project is of special importance in the context of Bac Ninh promoting the implementation of urban development goals, striving to become a centrally-run city before 2030. The project will contribute to realizing the dream of "settling down and making a living" for thousands of workers and laborers, thereby encouraging and motivating them to work with peace of mind and stay with the business and the locality for a long time.

President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang affirmed: This is the second project invested by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor using the financial resources of the Trade Union according to the Housing Law. The project has social significance, creating conditions to partially solve the housing difficulties of union members and workers in industrial parks and export processing zones in Bac Ninh province and the whole country. The President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor requested Bac Ninh province to continue to pay attention and create all favorable conditions for the project to be completed soon and put into use on schedule. The Trade Union Project Management Board, contractors, and relevant agencies coordinate to deploy the best and most effective measures to construct the project, ensuring quality, progress, and absolute safety.
