For the first time, a charity program gathering more than 200 tattoo artists from all over the country was held in Long An . Accordingly, all funds came from product auctions and free tattoos throughout the week.

Recently, the charity event of more than 200 tattoo artists from all over the country shared on social networks has attracted the attention of netizens. Tattooed guys are often looked at with prejudice, but when they personally carry and bring gifts to families in difficult circumstances, everyone is moved.

300 million VND sent to poor people in Long An

Accordingly, the charity event was organized by Mr. Le Duong Thanh (30 years old, living in Tan An City, Long An). Mr. Thanh said: At the age of 19, when he started opening a tattoo shop, he encountered many discriminatory looks from those around him. Even his own family did not support him, forcing him to close the shop.

Since then, Thanh has nurtured a dream of organizing a charity event every year with all his heart and soul to help improve the image of tattoo artists in the eyes of the people.

“Since I was 19 years old, I have saved every penny to support 40-50 gifts. I have always tried little by little so that now, after more than 10 years, the program has expanded,” said Mr. Thanh.

Since it was the 10th year, Thanh initially decided to call on other tattoo artists from all over the country to join in. Luckily, more than 200 tattoo artists responded, offering free tattoos for a week to raise funds.

“In addition, we also organized an auction of paintings drawn by famous tattoo artists, tattoo machines, ink bottles... all the money will be put into the common fund. Luckily, we got more than 300 million VND, equivalent to 500 gifts,” said Mr. Thanh.

At first, when people saw many people covered in tattoos, Thanh shared that they were also very scared. However, when they witnessed the kindness of the tattoo artists, they began to open their hearts.

“Even in Vinh Hung, there are many children from Cambodia, they often sell lottery tickets during the day, and attend charity classes at night, never having had enough clothes. When they received gifts, they were very happy. That image helped all the tattoo artists forget all their fatigue,” said Mr. Thanh.

Quit Medicine to Pursue Tattoo Dream

At the age of 18, while studying medicine, Le Duong Thanh suddenly dropped out to pursue his passion for tattooing. At that time, tattooing was not popular, so he encountered many prejudiced looks.

Not giving up, the 9x guy spent his days on the internet learning and started to practice tattooing to make a living. When he had some skills, he returned to his hometown to start a business but was met with disapproval from his relatives and neighbors.

Despite many failures and insults, Thanh clearly knew that his dream was in his blood and nothing could defeat it. To prove his ability, in early 2015, he started registering to participate in tattoo competitions at home and abroad.

After more than 10 years of fighting, going through many domestic and international tattoo competitions, Thanh has won 20 big and small awards and become a famous tattoo artist in the profession.

I was happy when my constant efforts were rewarded. “From then on, I knew that only by proving that people with tattoos are good people can I change people’s views. At first, when I called on my brothers to do charity work, they were scrutinized a lot. Once, when I went to the border to give gifts to poor children, the children saw us with tattoos and shouted ‘ghost, ghost’ and ran away. Now, when they see me, every child hugs me and asks for gifts…”, Mr. Thanh shared.

Talking about his future dreams, Mr. Le Duong Thanh hopes that each year he will have enough money and strength to carry out charity trips as planned. At the same time, he also plans to organize monthly kitchens to help the needy and patients in hospitals.
