The Greek government has issued a ban on students using mobile phones in schools starting September 11, the start of the new school year 2024-2025. Accordingly, students will still be allowed to bring their phones to school but will not be allowed to use them.

The new regulation also requires students not to take photos, record videos or record conversations with classmates or teachers without consent.

Failure to comply with the above regulations may result in suspension from 1 to 3 days.

Speaking during a visit to a primary school on the outskirts of Athens on September 11, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis asked students to comply with the above regulations.

Greek Minister of Education, Religion and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis said that this measure will help students have better conditions and opportunities to communicate with teachers and classmates.

The above measure is welcomed by many teachers and parents, who believe it can help improve learning efficiency in class and increase interaction with teachers and friends.

However, some teachers say it is difficult to fully implement the ban, as parents still need to contact their children by phone at school, especially in emergencies.

Recently, some countries in the European Union (EU) have also begun to ban the use of phones in classrooms, to varying degrees.
