According to VNA, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has released footage of an underground Hezbollah base in southern Lebanon, which is ready for an attack on Israel on a larger scale than the October 7, 2023 massacre.
Appearing in a video released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on October 14, IDF spokesman Admiral Daniel Hagari said he was in a bunker under a house in a Shia village in Lebanon, just a few kilometers from the border with Israel.
According to the IDF spokesman, this bunker was ready to serve Hezbollah's Radwan forces to enter villages and positions inside Israel to carry out a massacre on a larger scale than the massacre on October 7, 2023.
Earlier, in a statement issued on the evening of October 5, the IDF said that soldiers from the Airborne Brigade, the Yahalom unit and the combat engineering unit of the 98th Division of the Northern Command had destroyed 250 meters of tunnels and underground facilities used by Hezbollah's Radwan Force. This underground network was identified and investigated in cross-border operations that began on the morning of October 1 by the Israeli army in coordination with special units.
The IDF discovered command centers, terrorist combat backpacks, and large weapons caches in the tunnels, which Hezbollah is believed to have used to attack Israel. In addition, the tunnels contained living quarters equipped with bathrooms, kitchens, and food storage. The underground infrastructure did not extend into Israeli territory.
After being discovered, the tunnels were sealed by the combat engineering unit of the 98th Division of the Northern Command and the Yahalom unit, in coordination with the Engineering and Construction Department of the Israeli Ministry of Defense .
Hezbollah has a vast network of tunnels in southern Lebanon, which Israel estimates to be hundreds of kilometers long, Reuters reported on October 15. Last week, a Hezbollah field commander told Reuters that the tunnels were “the foundation of the battle.”
On the morning of October 1, Israel announced the start of a limited ground operation targeting several areas in southern Lebanon, where many Hezbollah forces are concentrated. This operation took place after two weeks of intense Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah targets, especially in the south of the capital Beirut, where Hezbollah's headquarters is located.
Israel's goal in sending troops into southern Lebanon is to push back Hezbollah forces, in order to allow 60,000 Israelis in the north who evacuated since October 7 last year to return home.
