Solid foundation for building a revolutionary, regular, elite, modern army

In the Draft Political Report of the Central Military Commission presented to the 12th Party Congress of the Army, an outstanding, consistent and fundamental achievement was emphasized: Focusing on leadership and direction to build a politically strong Army. This is not only the result of one term but also the continuation of the glorious tradition and demonstration of the steadfastness of the Vietnam People's Army.

Maintaining the ideological front in the face of new challenges

The building of a politically strong Army has been identified by the entire Party and the entire Army as a particularly important task, directly determining the combat strength and revolutionary nature of the Army. In the context of the country continuing to deeply integrate into the international community, science and technology developing at an unprecedented speed, social networks becoming a new "front" where ideas, information and values conflict, maintaining the ideological battlefield in the Army is both an urgent and long-term strategic requirement.

The female Information Soldiers' Bloc is a representative force of the Information and Communications Corps at the celebration, parade, and march of the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2.

The achievement of "building a politically strong Army" in the past term is even more significant when it is affirmed in very difficult conditions: the Covid-19 pandemic has been prolonged, the world and regional situation has changed rapidly and complicatedly, hostile forces have increased their sabotage with many sophisticated and cunning tricks. But it is in that difficulty that the political mettle, steel spirit, and absolute loyalty to the Party, the Fatherland and the people of our Army have been more clearly affirmed, consolidating the invisible but extremely decisive strength: political and spiritual strength.

One of the clear manifestations of the achievements in building a politically strong Army is that political education and ideological orientation work is conducted regularly, comprehensively and in depth. The entire Army has strongly innovated the content, form and methods of political education in a practical, flexible and effective direction, meeting the requirements of training tasks, combat readiness and Army building in the new situation.

Political agencies from strategic level to grassroots units have proactively grasped, assessed, and correctly forecasted the ideological situation of the army, especially in the face of complex and sensitive issues; promptly handled manifestations of cognitive and ideological deviations, preventing the formation of hot spots within the organization. The work of orienting information and combating erroneous and hostile viewpoints in cyberspace has been carried out resolutely, systematically, and pioneeringly, contributing to maintaining the "ideological battlefield" in the entire army and strengthening people's trust.

In particular, in the face of fierce sabotage by hostile forces on social networks, where true and false values are intertwined, information is distorted, and easily affects soldiers' ideology, units throughout the army have highly promoted the role of press agencies, political cadres, reporters, propagandists... Tens of thousands of articles, videos, clips, and political podcasts have been posted, shared, and spread, clarifying the Party's viewpoints and guidelines, protecting the Party's ideological foundation, and fighting against distortion, incitement, and division by reactionary forces.

Along with that, extensive political activities such as studying and thoroughly grasping the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the resolutions and conclusions of the Politburo, the Secretariat, the Campaign to Promote Tradition, Contribute Talents, and Be Worthy of the Title of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers" in the New Era, the Emulation Movement to Win, political competitions and sports... have become "general counter-attacks" on the ideological front, strengthening the "political resistance" of cadres and soldiers, and illuminating the ideal of fighting for national independence and socialism.

Political power, the soul of the Vietnam People's Army

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh once advised: “Our army is loyal to the Party, filial to the people, ready to fight and sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for socialism. Any task must be completed, any difficulty must be overcome, and any enemy must be defeated.” That ideology remains the guiding principle for all activities of building the army, especially in the political field.

Building a politically strong Army is building a solid "root" for the entire development of the revolutionary armed forces. Because if you are not politically strong, you will not have the courage to overcome difficulties, and will be easily influenced by material temptations, distorted arguments, and sophisticated divisive tricks on cyberspace and in social life. Once trust is shaken, the belief in fighting is also lost - a taboo for any army in the world.

The achievement of building a politically strong Army in the 2020-2025 term is not accidental, but is the result of inheriting the revolutionary spirit, the will to be self-reliant, proactive and creative in leadership, direction and organization of implementation of Party committees, commanders and political agencies throughout the army. Officer training schools, academies and research institutes in the fields of social sciences and humanities have been consolidated and invested in, contributing to improving the quality of political and ideological human resources, meeting the requirements of modernizing the Army.

In addition, the role of press and publishing agencies in the Army has also been strongly promoted. The People's Army Newspaper, the Army Radio and Television Center, the National Defense Magazine, the People's Army Publishing House... and the information and propaganda agencies at the units have promptly provided official information, guided public opinion, spread examples of good people and good deeds, inspired patriotism, and strengthened communist ideals among officers and soldiers.

Notably, the work of internal political inspection, supervision and protection has been implemented synchronously and closely, contributing to the prevention, detection and timely handling of signs of degradation, "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the organization, potential risks that can weaken the political strength of the Army if not identified and prevented early.

Pervasive requirements in the new era

Looking back on the past, it can be affirmed that: Building a politically strong Army is not only a regular task but also a vital requirement in the new situation. While the world is experiencing profound geopolitical changes, hybrid wars, information wars, cyber wars, space wars... are quietly reshaping the method of global conflict, political stability is a "spiritual shield" that helps our Army always stand firm, control the situation, and maintain confidence in victory.

Strong politics is also a decisive factor in building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern Army. Because no matter how sophisticated the weapons are, without a strong political will, clear ideals, and steadfast beliefs, material strength becomes meaningless. In the context of the defense industry changing, the cyber warfare force developing, the militia and self-defense forces and the reserve mobilization force being improved in quality and built widely, a strong political foundation needs to be preserved and consolidated as well as preserving the "source" of life of the Army.

Practice has shown that the work of building a politically strong Army has achieved many important results; the working class nature, people's character, and national character of the Army have been maintained and promoted; the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers have been consolidated and widely spread; the ideological foundation, political belief, and fighting will of officers and soldiers continue to be consolidated.

In the new era, developing political combat forces, cyber warfare, ensuring internal ideological security... is not only a mandatory requirement but also a testament to the strategic vision in building a politically strong Army. Each officer and soldier must not only be good at military affairs and proficient in professional skills, but must also be a solid "ideological fortress", capable of identifying, refuting, and promptly fighting against harmful information and reactionary arguments that have infiltrated social life and the military.

More than ever, the work of building a politically strong Army needs to continue to be placed at the center of the entire process of building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern Vietnam People's Army. That is the consistent viewpoint, the constant goal, the source of the fighting strength and victory of our Army - an Army "born from the people, fighting for the people", always worthy of the name of Uncle Ho's Army in the hearts of the Vietnamese people and international friends.
