A few days ago, Mr. PVK (45 years old, residing in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh) was hospitalized in a state of fatigue and high fever that lasted for many days without stopping. The male patient also said that the symptoms appeared after many days of wading through water and mud to clean up his house after storm No. 3.

According to Mr. K., during his treatment at home, he took fever-reducing medicine but it did not improve, so he was hospitalized. At the hospital, Mr. K. was taken for testing and the results showed that the patient had bacteremia caused by the bacteria Burkholderia Pseudomallei (Whitmore). The patient was monitored and actively treated by doctors at the Department of Tropical Diseases. Currently, the patient's health is stable, the fever has stopped and he is less tired.

Another case is patient TQT (49 years old, residing in Ha Lam Ward, Ha Long City), hospitalized with an open wound on the left calf, swelling, pain, edema with signs of pus and high fever.

Doctors diagnosed the patient with left shin cellulitis and monitored for sepsis. The patient said he fell on a fallen tree branch, causing injuries, then had intermittent fever, chills, and swelling and ulcers in his shin. After a week of intensive treatment with appropriate regimen, the patient's fever has gone down, the wound is gradually recovering, and he will be discharged in the next few days.

Specialist II Doctor Luong Xuan Kien, Head of the Department of Tropical Diseases (Quang Ninh General Hospital), said that after storms, many microorganisms, garbage, waste... flowed into many places with the water, polluting water sources and food sources, increasing cases of disease and infection in the community.

Bacteria can cause disease through the respiratory tract or contact with polluted environments, especially bacteria that exist in dirty mud environments. The risk of infection is even higher in people with scratches on the skin.

Doctor Kien recommends that after the rainy season, people need to take measures to prevent skin diseases and infections, such as daily personal hygiene, washing hands with soap; and should not come into direct contact with soil or dirty water that has stagnated for a long time.

Especially when there are skin wounds, bleeding scratches; clean the house and environment with protective equipment immediately after the water recedes, clean the surface with disinfectant solutions. In addition, people need to eat cooked food and boiled water, avoid unsanitary food and contaminated water sources, and increase nutritional supplements to improve the immune system.
