Youth from Green Summer

After 1 month of the Green Summer Campaign 2025 in Phu Mo and Xuan Lanh communes, more than 40 volunteer students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education not only helped people in remote areas and ethnic minority areas access digital technology but also left their mark with the "Lighting up the Countryside" projects.

Previously, when the sun set, the inter-village roads of Phu Mo commune were almost plunged into darkness. People had difficulty traveling, especially the elderly and children. But now, with the youth volunteer project "Lighting up the countryside roads" consisting of 20 solar-powered lights, the roads in the villages are lit up every night. Ms. Le Thi Hong, a resident of Ky Lo village, could not hide her joy: "Since the lights came on, the roads are bright, I feel secure going anywhere. The children are not afraid to go to school at night. The villagers are very happy."

The local government highly appreciated the practical significance of the project. According to Mr. La Lan Don, Secretary of the Party Cell of Phu Tien village (Phu Mo commune), the installation of the lighting system helps ensure security and order at night, improving the quality of life of the people, especially ethnic minorities. This "Lighting up the Countryside" project is a vivid demonstration of the pioneering and voluntary role of young people in contributing to the construction of new rural areas.

Children of Phu Mo commune have a place to play thanks to the construction of the "Children's Playground" by students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education.

Similarly, Xuan Lanh commune has just received the project "Lighting up the countryside roads" with 40 solar-powered lights. Mr. Tran Quoc Huy, Party Secretary and Chairman of the People's Council of Xuan Lanh commune, said: "In the past, people here had difficulty traveling, especially in the rainy season or on moonless nights. Now with the lights, the village is brighter and people are closer. We thank the students for bringing light to this land."

Under the scorching sun of the mountain summer, the young volunteers are still diligently measuring, pulling wires, installing poles, and placing batteries. Regardless of the hardship, the students bring with them not only equipment, but also the spirit of youthful dedication. Pham Ngoc Quy, President of the Student Association of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education. Ho Chi Minh, Deputy Commander of the school's 2025 Green Summer Campaign, said: “To have these memorable projects, we have gone through difficult days together. There were summer afternoons when the sun burned our skin, and sweat soaked our green shirts while digging each lamp hole and mixing each batch of cement. There were sudden rainstorms that forced the unfinished work to stop. There were also initial confusion when our hands, which were only used to holding pens and keyboards, now had to hold hoes and trowels, clumsy but determined. And there were also sleepless nights because we missed home. But when we saw the joy of the people, we forgot all our tiredness. Only when we went out did we see that small things like installing lamps could make a big change for the community.”

The project "Lighting up the countryside" is not only a part of the Green Summer Campaign, but also demonstrates the pioneering and voluntary role of young people in building new rural areas. Each light bulb lit is a hope, a testament to the spirit of dedication and not afraid of hardship of the youth."

According to students Nguyen Phu Thanh, Phu Mo, Xuan Lanh taught valuable lessons to students who only knew about lecture halls and books. These were lessons about sharing, about neighborly love, about the value of labor and about "giving is receiving". The team members learned how to overcome their ego, learned how to love and bond with strangers at first to become a family. The day they arrived with the luggage of youth, the day they left with a heart full of humanity and maturity.

In addition to the meaningful lighting project, the Green Summer volunteer student team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education also opened "Children's Classes", organized "Creative Festivals", inaugurated "Children's Playgrounds" and "National Flag Route", "Cooking for children in the highlands"... These are not only projects worth tens of millions of VND, but also the most sincere messages and feelings that the students want to send to future generations.

The project "Lighting up the countryside roads" was inaugurated in Xuan Lanh commune.

In particular, every day, the volunteer team actively participates in supporting the commune's public administration area, contributing to solving administrative procedures, improving work efficiency and reducing the workload for local officials, bringing more convenience to the people; supporting units in the digital transformation process, helping people install essential applications. Along with the "Digital Education for All" program, the students also trained commune officials on AI knowledge and deployed the "Cashless Market" model, contributing to modernizing the lives of local people.

Associate Professor, Dr. Chau Dinh Thanh, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education shared: “Today’s small projects will be a big memory in the journey of young people growing up. Through this activity, students not only practice practical skills but also understand more clearly about civic responsibility and patriotism from the simplest things.”
