Promoting Vietnam defense cooperation

On the morning of June 13 in Hanoi, Minister of National Defense , General Ngo Xuan Lich chaired the official welcoming ceremony for Indian Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who led a high-ranking military delegation from the Republic of India to pay an official visit to Vietnam from June 12 to 15.

At the talks held after the welcoming ceremony, General Ngo Xuan Lich expressed his pleasure to welcome the high-ranking military delegation of the Republic of India on an official visit to Vietnam and affirmed that the visit contributes to strengthening the good traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India in general and promoting defense cooperation between the two countries in particular, for the benefit of the people of each country, for peace , stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The two sides discussed global and regional issues of mutual concern, assessed the results of bilateral defense cooperation in recent times, and agreed on directions and measures to promote defense relations in the coming time. The two ministers emphasized the need to continue maintaining existing cooperation mechanisms such as deputy-ministerial defense policy dialogue, bilateral defense cooperation group meetings, consultations with officers of the three military services (navy, army, and air force); focusing on discussing areas of cooperation between military services, arms, cooperation in training of officers, defense industry, strategic research, overcoming post-war consequences, and participating in UN peacekeeping operations.

During the visit and working session in Vietnam, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman and members of the delegation paid a courtesy call to President Tran Dai Quang, attended the 4th Vietnam - India Defense Industry Business Meeting and visited a number of Vietnamese military units.
