
Phong Nam ancient village has an area of over 1.6 km2 , located in Phong Nam hamlet, Hoa Chau commune, Hoa Vang district (old), now Hoa Xuan ward, Da Nang city; 10km southwest of Da Nang city center.
According to documents of the People's Committee of Hoa Vang district (old), Phong Nam ancient village has a long history with its predecessor being Phong Le village in Da Ly land - discovered since the Ho dynasty in 1404. By the 8th year of Thanh Thai (1896), due to the large geographical area, the Yen River flowing across "disabling the ferry", the government divided Phong Le village into Phong Le Bac (Phong Bac) and Phong Le Nam (Phong Nam).

Although separated administratively, the two villages remain one; all community activities, religious works... are concentrated in Phong Nam area.
Through hundreds of years of history on the banks of the Yen River, Phong Nam still retains the ancient features of a traditional village with an ancient communal house, green fields, a village gate next to an old banyan tree, green bamboo hedges running along the village road, ancient wells, ancient houses, a system of folk religious works in the village...
From March 2025, the local government announced the Project to develop Phong Nam Cultural Tourism Village and launched the Hoa Chau Ecological Agriculture Community Tourism Cooperative.

Phong Nam village, Hoa Chau commune (now Hoa Xuan ward) and Bo Ban village, Hoa Phong commune (now Hoa Vang commune) are two localities chosen by Hoa Vang district (old) to implement the project to build a "Characteristic cultural village" of Da Nang by 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The total estimated cost of the project is over 89 billion VND. Of which, 75.33 billion VND is for Phong Nam village and 14.02 billion VND is for Bo Ban village.
The project aims to preserve and promote cultural values and traditional beauty; improve the material and spiritual life of the people, associated with the criteria of "advanced new rural commune" and "model new rural commune" and the unique characteristics of the locality.
