Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of June 17, a leader of the Department of Transport of Quang Ninh province said that they are assigning a specialized department to coordinate with the Ha Long Bay Management Board to verify the information reported by tourists on Facebook about being abandoned on Ti Top Island.
On Facebook, information appeared from an account upset about "a disastrous travel experience, leaving guests on Ti Top Island and then leaving without checking on them, not a single missed call, waiting 30 minutes at the dock but no boat, calling the phone number on the bracelet but the subscriber was unavailable...".
According to a representative of the Ha Long Bay Management Board, on June 16, a cruise ship carried 99 passengers (not group passengers) to Ti Top Island in Ha Long Bay. When picking up the passengers back to the ship, the passengers had not returned and the ship could not find the passengers but still headed back to shore.
The shipping company then arranged for another ship to pick up the remaining passengers, but this caused the passengers to return later than the original schedule.
According to representatives of the Quang Ninh Inland Waterways Port Authority and the Ha Long Bay Management Board, the unit only learned of the information after the incident was posted on social media. Before that, during their duties, they did not receive any complaints from tourists about being abandoned.
Relevant units are focusing on clarifying the shipping line's responsibility as well as taking steps to prevent this situation from recurring.
