Saving the life of a 26-week-old premature baby weighing 0.7kg

On July 17, a representative of Khanh Hoa General Hospital said that doctors at this medical facility saved the life of a 26-week-old premature baby weighing 0.7 kg.

According to the hospital, this is the first time a premature baby born at 26 weeks old has been successfully raised and treated at this medical facility.

Previously, in June, pregnant woman H. (22 years old, residing in Khanh Hoa province) was taken to the emergency room at Khanh Hoa General Hospital in a state of premature labor when the fetus was only 26 weeks old, in breech position.

After birth, the baby cried weakly, was put on non-invasive ventilation and transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit of the Pediatrics department.

The baby was admitted to the hospital in a lethargic state, with severe respiratory failure and hemodynamic disorders, weighing 0.7 kg. The baby was diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome and neonatal sepsis.

After 2 weeks of intensive treatment, the child's lung condition improved and the endotracheal tube was removed and the child was switched to a nasal cannula. The child continued to receive intravenous nutrition with adequate nutrition and began to try breast milk.

On the 43rd day after birth, the baby was breastfeeding well, weighed 1.5 kg, was in stable health and was discharged from the hospital.
