Evacuate students and teachers from severely damaged areas

On September 10, the Minister of Education and Training (MOET) issued Official Dispatch No. 1200/CD-BGDDT to the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of provinces and centrally-run cities on directing recovery work after storm No. 3 (storm Yagi).

The dispatch clearly stated that the circulation of storm No. 3 caused heavy rain over a wide area, causing severe damage to localities. In order to quickly overcome the consequences and soon stabilize teaching and learning activities, the Minister of Education and Training requested the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of provinces and centrally-run cities to urgently overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

Coordinate with health agencies to disinfect and clean classrooms to prevent the risk of disease outbreaks after storms. Ensure school safety and environmental sanitation before welcoming students back to school.

Long periods of rain make the soil soft and weak, increasing the risk of landslides. It is necessary to proactively review and inspect structures at risk of being unsafe in order to have plans for repair and remediation.

Resolutely not put into use structures that do not meet quality standards and are at risk of collapse. Plan and immediately implement repairs to school infrastructure, especially prioritizing items that pose a risk to the safety of teachers and students.

Evacuate students, teachers, facilities and teaching equipment from severely damaged or unsafe areas.

Check the tree system, fences, school gates, have plans to prune branches, prevent wall collapse, tree fall. Especially check schools, educational facilities near rivers, streams, near areas at risk of flooding, landslides to warn or stop students from going to school if it is unsafe.

Ensure timely provision of essential supplies and teaching equipment to affected educational institutions. Provide psychological support to teachers and students affected by the storm, especially families suffering from loss of life and property.

Strengthen coordination with local agencies in relief and recovery after the storm, especially supporting families of teachers and students who suffered heavy losses.

Have a plan to prepare facilities, equipment, necessary supplies and materials for students in boarding schools to ensure safety, thoughtfulness and convenience for students.
