Hien Luong - Ben Hai Monument temporarily closes to visitors

(Dan Tri) - The Hien Luong - Ben Hai River special national relic (Quang Tri) will temporarily close to serve tourists from August 23 until further notice.

On August 23, the leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province said that the Hien Luong - Ben Hai special national relic site will temporarily close to visitors to carry out the construction of the Thong Nhat Park project.

The Thong Nhat Park project belonging to the Hien Luong - Ben Hai special national relic cluster was approved by the People's Committee of Quang Tri province in December 2024, with a total capital of 80 billion VND.

The project includes many important items such as renovating and upgrading the flagpole, Hien Luong bridge, complex house, management office building, reception system, toilets on both banks and other auxiliary works.

Notably, the rusted steel structures of Hien Luong Bridge will be replaced, the bridge deck will be remade with 50mm thick ironwood, and the bridge abutments will be reinforced with carbon fiber panels.

The project also invests in specialized equipment for cinema rooms, interpretation and relic management. According to the plan, the time to hand over the site and implement all items is from August to December 31.

The Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Special Relic Complex is located on the 17th parallel, in Quang Tri province. This was the temporary border dividing the North and South after the Geneva Agreement in 1954.

Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River have become painful symbols of a divided country, and at the same time, a place to demonstrate the resilient will and aspiration for national unification of the Vietnamese people.

Today, the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Special Monument Complex is a destination on the journey back to the source, attracting a large number of tourists to learn about history and commemorate a heroic period of the country.
