Hanoi: Electricity consumption increased, estimated at 67 million kWh/day

In the first 5 months of 2025, the average electricity consumption in Hanoi city reached over 67 million kWh/day, an increase of about 2% over the same period in 2024. EVNHANOI estimates that electricity demand during hot weather will increase by 8% - 12%/year.

EVNHANOI strives to operate and ensure peak power supply in summer 2025.

In particular, the peak capacity (Pmax) set at 9:40 p.m. on June 2 was 5,558 MW, the highest in history and an increase of 5.6% compared to the peak capacity in 2024.

With the goal of providing safe, continuous and stable electricity, Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI) has synchronously deployed solutions to improve the quality of technical management and operation of the power system.

In the first 5 months of the year, the Corporation started construction of 5 110/220 kV projects and energized 5 110 kV projects. For the medium and low voltage grid, EVNHANOI energized 116 projects with a total main equipment capacity put into operation of 95 MBA/39.4 MVA; 187.3 km of medium voltage lines and 631.1 km of low voltage conductors.

EVNHANOI strengthens inspection of operating status of equipment.

Mr. Tran Thanh Sang, Head of the Electricity Management Team 2, Ba Dinh Electricity Company, said that to ensure a stable, safe and continuous power supply in the summer, especially during peak hours of electricity consumption, the unit regularly checks current measurement, takes thermal images, and connection points on the grid... If risks of causing incidents such as overheating are detected, the group of workers will have to handle them immediately to avoid prolonged incidents.

During peak hot days, work can last until 2-3 am due to the need to continuously handle contact and phase reversal at many locations to ensure safe, continuous and stable power supply to serve customers in the area.

To meet the high demand for electricity during the peak summer season, EVNHANOI requires power companies to review, update, analyze and evaluate load data by region and load characteristics, thereby forecasting loads close to reality, building scenarios and appropriate power supply solutions at the unit; at the same time, focus on reviewing and strengthening grid operation management, calculating optimal operating methods.

EVNHANOI arranged on-duty forces to urgently handle contact and phase reversal.

In particular, during the peak hot days, EVNHANOI has directed units to strengthen and arrange on-duty forces; regularly review the load situation; continuously check and patrol to prevent incidents due to violations of the route corridor; and prepare materials, equipment and means to promptly handle any situations that arise.

In addition to the efforts of the electricity industry, to join hands to contribute to ensuring electricity supply in the hot summer of 2025, EVNHANOI recommends that customers use electricity economically and effectively, turn off unnecessary electrical equipment, limit the use of equipment during peak electricity consumption hours: from 12:00 to 15:00 and from 22:00 to midnight every day. At the same time, pay attention to the reasonable use of air conditioning (set at 26°C or higher, use in combination with fans) and should not use many high-capacity electrical equipment at the same time...
