Reporting to Tuoi Tre Online , many parents in Binh Lap village (Cam Lap commune, Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province) said their children could not go to school at the school near their home because this school was about to be demolished due to traffic planning problems, forcing students to transfer to a school about 4km away.
Many parents do not agree to transfer schools, resulting in their children not being able to attend the opening ceremony like their peers.
Take your child to the opening ceremony but the school is not open
Mr. VVH (47 years old, resident of Binh Lap village) said that his nephew entered first grade this year and was accepted into Cam Lap Primary and Secondary School (Tau Be location). However, on the opening day (September 5), the school closed its gates and was not in operation.
According to Mr. H., the school had previously held a meeting to discuss with parents about transferring all students from Cam Lap Primary and Secondary School (Tau Be location) to Cam Lap Primary and Secondary School (Bai Ngang location), however many parents did not agree with this plan.
"The school closed on the opening day without any notice to us. My child entered first grade but now we don't know where to go to school or how to study," said Mr. H.
Having a child entering first grade this year, Ms. M. (32 years old, living in Binh Lap village) said that the school had previously persuaded her to transfer her child to Bai Ngang school, but she did not agree because it was inconvenient.
"Yesterday, I took my child to attend the opening ceremony but there were no teachers, and Tau Be school was closed. Now my child is at home because I don't have the conditions to take him to another school, I still have to go to work, there's no way I can pick him up from such a far away school" - Ms. M. said.

"My three children all study at Tau Be school. The 5th grader has transferred to another school because he is quite old. The remaining two children, in grades 2 and 3, cannot travel long distances. We also do not have a means of transportation. Now I let them stay at home because I don't know what else to do," said Ms. PTHN (41 years old, resident of Binh Lap village).
According to the reporter's records, Cam Lap Primary and Secondary School (Tau Be location) is located on a plot of land of more than 100 square meters . The school has now stopped operating, classrooms and functional rooms are all locked, and some items have degraded.
Mobilizing people to let students transfer schools
Mr. Nguyen Van My - Chairman of Cam Lap Commune People's Committee (Cam Ranh City) - said that in the commune there are 3 schools including Tau Be school, Bai Ngang school and Nuoc Ngot village school.
Mr. My said the local authorities recognized that the children were still young and that it was inconvenient for their parents to transfer schools, but if they were left behind, there would not be enough teachers and the Tau Be school would be degraded.
"In terms of planning, the land of Tau Be school is land donated by the people to build the school, and during the process of use, the school has degraded. This school is also caught up in the general traffic planning of the commune, so in terms of policy, a new school will not be built" - Mr. My said.
According to Mr. My, recently the Department of Education and Training of Cam Ranh City proposed to repair Tau Be school, but after reviewing the planning, this school did not meet the conditions for repair because of its small area and traffic planning problems.
"In cases where children have difficulty transferring schools, the local authorities will support them with transportation. For example, in cases of economic difficulties, there will be support such as loans and job placement. Parents who can travel will help parents who cannot travel," said Mr. My.

According to Mr. Thach, Cam Ranh City People's Committee will study the option of boarding schools not only in Cam Lap commune but also in other communes, to create conditions for students to stay at school at noon and arrange meals and rest to facilitate parents.
