More than 5,800 candidates take the national excellent student exam in 2024

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training , the total number of candidates registered to take part in the national excellent student exam this year is 5,819 candidates, an increase of 1,230 students compared to last year.

Among the subjects, Literature and English are the subjects with the most candidates, with about 640 candidates. On January 5, candidates will take written tests in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, History, Geography, English, Russian, French, Chinese and a computer programming test in Information Technology.

On January 6, candidates will take written exams in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology; oral exams in English, Russian, French, Chinese; and computer programming exam in Information Technology.

In October 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training issued regulations for national excellent student selection with many new points. In particular, the maximum number of candidates for each subject of each unit is 10 candidates, with 20 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi .

This regulation also stipulates that instead of organizing practical exams, the exam questions for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology will have content requiring candidates to solve problems using knowledge related to experimental and practical skills.

In addition, the proportion of prize-winning candidates accounts for 60% of the total number of candidates (previous years it was 50%); in which, the total number of First, Second, and Third prizes does not exceed 60% of the total number of prizes; the number of First prizes does not exceed 5% of the total number of prizes. This ratio ensures compliance with the regulations of regional and international Olympics.

The new regulations also add provisions on the issuance of Certificates of Participation in the National Excellent Student Competition for candidates who take part in the competition but do not win any prizes. This will help students have long-term personal information about their participation in the competition.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that the national excellent student selection exam is organized to encourage and motivate teachers and students to promote their creativity; contribute to promoting the improvement and enhancement of teaching and learning quality; and at the same time discover students with aptitude for subjects to create a source of training, realizing the goal of training talents for the country.
