“Red Rain” - Tragic memories and reminders today

(Baohatinh.vn) - There are films that are not only to watch, but also to think about. There are films that are not only to cry about, but also to live more responsibly. The film Red Rain, released on the occasion of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2, is such a work.

Set in the context of the fierce 81-day battle at Quang Tri Citadel in 1972, Red Rain follows the footsteps of Squad 1, a company directly responsible for protecting the Citadel. Rather than a panoramic view, the film focuses on one squad, thereby reflecting on an entire generation that lived, fought and died for the Fatherland.

The film Red Rain is set in the context of the fierce 81-day and night battle at Quang Tri Citadel in 1972.

In that squad, there was squad leader Ta - a staunch party member. Before he died, he still had time to give some blood-stained money to his teammates, telling them: "Remember to pay the party fee." A short but sacred sentence, like an oath. It was also Ta, in the midst of starvation, who took out the last remaining packet of dry food from his pocket and divided it equally among his teammates.

Among those who were given that small amount of dry food was Tu - the youngest soldier in the squad, only 17 years old, who had not yet graduated from high school but had volunteered to go to battle. Because of hunger, his ears were ringing, Tu thought he heard the sound of crickets chirping in the night. Only when he ate that small amount of dry food did he realize that the "cricket" sound was actually the ringing in his ears due to exhaustion. A small detail, but it fully depicted the fierceness, at the same time brightened the comradely and team spirit filled with humanity.

Actor Phuong Nam impressed with the role of Ta - a simple, straightforward soldier.

The film also depicts humane love stories and comradeship. The pure love between Ms. Hong and soldier Vu Kien Cuong is both romantic and haunting, like a flame that lights up faith. Besides, we encounter the image of soldiers in their late teens and early twenties, carrying within them all the innocence of youth. They go to war when they are still in the stage of dreaming, not yet experiencing the first emotions of life.

…“Our generation goes like the wind/ Green uniforms the same color as the horizon/ Not yet having the chance to love a girl/ When falling into the ground, still a boy…”

Touching the viewer's heart is the portrait of a generation that lived, fought and sacrificed for the Fatherland, leaving behind for today not only independence but also an ideal of life: living cleanly, living fully, living worthily.

Soldier Hai, when captured by the enemy, despite being brutally tortured, remained steadfast, trying to muster up all his last strength to shout at the enemy and also to call on his comrades: "Don't give up, we will definitely win!" Only to have his legs shot and burned alive while hanging in a suspended position.

Cuong and Quang fell in the deadly battle. They still held tightly the S-shaped checkered scarves in their hands.

And the most tragic climax is the scene where Cuong - a liberation soldier and Quang - a soldier of the Republic of Vietnam - both fall in the deadly battle. In their hands, they still tightly hold the checkered scarves folded in the shape of the letter S. That image, the director's careful intention, becomes a haunting symbol: The Fatherland of Vietnam, although once divided, is finally unified in the blood and bones of its own children.

And then, the film ends with the image of two mothers, Cuong's mother and Quang's mother, quietly letting white flowers float down the river. The two mothers are on opposite sides of the battle line, but share the same pain of losing their children. That scene makes the viewer's heart ache: war not only takes the lives of soldiers, but also leaves wounds that never heal in the hearts of Vietnamese mothers. That image elevates Red Rain to a humane level, as a reminder: Peace is the aspiration of every mother, of the entire nation.

Red Rain therefore not only tells a story of war, but also affirms a truth: Our people's war is a just war, for independence, for freedom, for national unification.

The price to pay was extremely high! Millions of people fell. But thanks to that, today the country is complete, the people can live in peace, and children can go to school under the red flag with yellow star.

Film screenings become vivid history classes, fostering patriotism, resilience and national pride in each person.

What is special is that Red Rain was included in the thematic activities by the Literature and Arts Party Cell of the Ha Tinh Newspaper Party Committee. The whole cell wore red shirts with yellow stars, sitting together in the theater. The image of journalists today in the revolutionary homeland, listening to the call from the past, is a beautiful moment.

Not only that, many party cells, organizations, veterans, youth volunteers, students, etc. also organized collective viewings of Red Rain . Those screenings became vivid history classes, fostering patriotism, indomitable will and national pride. Through that, it further showed that the film has profound educational value, arousing each person's responsibility to the Fatherland today.

Closing Red Rain , what remains in each person's heart is a reminder: Today's peace does not come naturally. It is paid for with blood and bones, with youth, with unfinished love and even with the silent tears of mothers. Therefore, please do not waste this life. Live, work, contribute, to be worthy of that sacrifice.

"Red Rain" attracted a large audience in Ha Tinh to the theater.

Red Rain , a heroic and tragic song, is not only for watching and crying, but more importantly, for action, for living more responsibly, so that the red color on the national flag will forever shine in the hearts of every Vietnamese person.
