High growth in processing and manufacturing industry

In the first 8 months of 2025, Hai Phong industry maintained a high growth rate, but needed solutions to overcome difficulties in the market and raw materials to maintain growth momentum in the last months of the year.

On September 6, Hai Phong City Statistics reported that in August 2025, the industrial production index (IIP) increased by 7.76% compared to the previous month and by 15.42% compared to the same period last year. Accordingly, the overall increase in the past 8 months was 14.51%.

Notably, the processing and manufacturing industry continued to play a leading role, with many sectors achieving high growth rates such as: production of means of transport increased by 45.14%; production of motor vehicles increased by 30.18%; production of electrical equipment increased by 27.07%; and products from prefabricated metal increased by 24.57%.

By region, IIP in August in the East of Hai Phong increased by 18.65% over the same period last year, the West of Hai Phong increased by 11.6%. In the first 8 months, the East increased by 15.64% and the West of Hai Phong increased by 13.24%.

Some industries that contributed greatly to the overall growth included: electronic product manufacturing increased by 7.98%; electrical equipment increased by 24.23%; motor vehicles increased by 37.05%, especially Vinfast electric cars increased by 128.3% in 8 months; food industry increased by 16.17%, of which animal feed increased by 17.7%. Textile, footwear, prefabricated metal industries... all maintained double-digit growth, contributing significantly to the city's industry.

However, industrial production tends to slow down due to the high base level from the previous year and limited growth potential. Some industries face difficulties such as: electricity production and distribution decreased by 6.94% due to the large mobilization of hydropower, causing a decrease in thermal power output; mining decreased by 16.89% due to depleted mine reserves and lack of construction materials; tobacco production decreased by 14.08% due to the impact of tax policies and market management. The new tax policy of the US also caused some large enterprises to reduce export orders.

In general, Hai Phong industry maintains a high growth rate, but solutions are needed to remove obstacles and difficulties in the market and raw materials to maintain growth momentum in the last months of the year.
