The first Vietnam - Russia People's Forum was organized by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations in coordination with the Saint Petersburg Foreign Affairs Committee (Russian Federation), the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association, the Russia - Vietnam Friendship Association and the Russia - Vietnam Cooperation Development Fund "Tradition and Friendship" on September 30 and October 1, 2025.
At the meeting, delegates expressed their opinions, expressing their enthusiasm and high responsibility to promote the relationship between the two countries and specific areas of cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.
On behalf of the leaders of the Party, State, Fatherland Front and people of Vietnam, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien expressed his deep respect and gratitude to the government and people of Saint Petersburg for their special feelings for Vietnam and the inauguration of the Ho Chi Minh Monument in Saint Petersburg; and expressed his sincere thanks for the warm welcome of the Russian government and people for the Vietnamese delegation, especially the visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly to the Russian Federation and Saint Petersburg.
"More than ever, generations of Vietnamese people always remember the kind Russian people, the wholehearted and righteous help of the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation today for the cause of building and defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam. Vietnam is implementing a multilateral, diversified, independent and self-reliant diplomatic strategy, with three pillars: Party foreign affairs, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy. The relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation and the city of Saint Petersburg is a very good relationship" - Mr. Do Van Chien shared.
Mr. Do Van Chien also highly appreciated the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations for coordinating with Saint Petersburg partners to organize the first Vietnam - Russia People's Forum. This is a very meaningful activity, contributing to deepening the friendship between the people of the two countries and proposing many new directions for people's diplomacy.
The long-standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation has been, is and will continue to develop. In July 2012, Vietnam and the Russian Federation agreed to establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the highest level of friendship between the two countries and peoples. Pursuing a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, proactive and active international integration, comprehensively, deeply, responsibly and effectively, Vietnam always attaches importance to developing relations with Russia, as well as with Saint Petersburg.
According to Mr. Do Van Chien, Vietnam has made remarkable progress: In 1986, when implementing the renovation policy, Vietnam was one of the poorest countries in the world, lacking food; however, after 40 years, Vietnam has ensured food security and become one of the world's leading rice exporting countries, with an output of about 8 million tons. Currently, Vietnam has risen to 32nd place in the world in terms of economic scale, in the group of 20 countries with the largest trade globally. People's lives are constantly improving. By 2025, Vietnam will complete the goal of eliminating all temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households.
Currently, Vietnam is entering a new era - the era of national development; building a solid position of people's hearts, people have absolute trust in the leadership of the Party and the State. Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 193 countries in the world, including building comprehensive strategic partnerships with 13 countries, and is an active member of more than 70 organizations in the world. One of Vietnam's great strengths is the position of people's hearts, people's trust, connecting ideas and the strength of the Party and the country.
Mr. Do Van Chien shared: According to the new organizational model, Vietnam has successfully reorganized the political system according to the two-level local government model, and at the same time reorganized the activities of the Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, and mass organizations assigned by the Party and the State; thanks to that, these organizations can promote their proactive role, connect, propose, and create favorable conditions for promoting strategic cooperation and people-to-people cooperation between the two countries; including the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations operating under the Vietnam Fatherland Front. Mr. Do Van Chien believes that the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations will promote its role and mission to connect and effectively carry out cooperation activities between the people of the two countries and the social organizations of the two countries.
