Braving the storm overnight to bring patients from Truong Sa to the mainland for treatment

At 9:20 a.m. on September 26, the Air Rescue Team - Military Hospital 175 (Ministry of National Defense), along with the flight crew of the Southern Helicopter Company - Army Corps 18, safely brought a patient with serious injuries due to a work accident from Thuyen Chai Island (Truong Sa special zone, Khanh Hoa province) to the mainland.

The emergency team transported the patient from the helipad to the department for treatment.

The patient is Mr. NNH (53 years old, from Quang Tri, a worker working on Thuyen Chai Island) who suffered a multiple trauma accident while at work and was taken to Thuyen Chai Island Infirmary for emergency treatment. Immediately, Thuyen Chai Island Infirmary conducted a telemedicine consultation with Military Hospital 175. Doctors determined that the patient was at risk of developing hemorrhagic shock and needed to be transported to the mainland for intensive treatment.

Complying with the order of the Ministry of National Defense , at 1:20 a.m. on September 26, the MB622 helicopter of the Southern Helicopter Company - Corps 18 and the Air Rescue Team - Military Hospital 175, led by Lieutenant Colonel Pham Truong Thanh - Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poison as Team Leader, took off from Tan Son Nhat airport to Thuyen Chai island.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Pham Truong Thanh, to ensure the safety of the patient's life during the transport by plane, Military Hospital 175 has fully prepared the following plans: blood transfusion to prevent shock, mechanical ventilation, pleural drainage, fluid replacement, oxygen therapy, hemostasis and close monitoring of complications such as tension pneumothorax, hemothorax, respiratory failure, circulatory failure. In particular, the emergency team has brought along a sufficient amount of medicine and equipment, ready to perform emergency hemostasis surgery right on the plane in the worst case scenario.

Although the flight was long and took place in complex stormy weather conditions all night, the flight crew and air ambulance team transported the patient safely to the mainland and promptly took him to the Emergency Department of Military Hospital 175.

Immediately after receiving the patient, the hospital quickly launched a red alert and held a hospital-wide consultation to make a definitive diagnosis and apply a timely, specialized treatment regimen for the patient.
