This morning, July 1, a landslide of quite a large volume occurred in Ta Phin commune (formerly Trung Chai), Lao Cai province, causing rocks and soil from the hill to flow down the section between the duty house and the BOT toll station connecting Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway to Sa Pa tourist area.

According to some local residents, the landslide occurred in the early morning of July 1, originating from the positive slope of Provincial Road 155, between the duty house and the BOT toll station. The rock and soil then continued to flow down, burying the entire surface of National Highway 4D below (the old road), completely cutting off the vital route connecting the center of Lao Cai province with the tourist area of Sa Pa (Lao Cai province) because both routes were paralyzed.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Luu, Deputy General Director of Lao Cai - Sa Pa BOT Investment Joint Stock Company, the prolonged rain since the morning of June 30 has caused rocks and soil to begin to slide down. The operator has proactively closed the uphill lane to ensure safety since June 30. However, by the morning of July 1, the situation has become more serious, rocks and soil have covered the road surface, damaging the corrugated iron system, electric poles and toll booths.

The landslide is located on an old slide that appeared after Typhoon Yagi in 2024. A house below the scene was affected, but people were evacuated in time, and there were no casualties.

At noon on July 1, the maintenance team was still working urgently to fix the problem. The first stage of the road was cleared so that vehicles could move again. However, the rain continued, causing many obstacles to the work at the scene.
